  • Some ideas for the expansion

Maybe one of the mods could sticky this thread so we could post some ideas of what we'd like to see? It would probably be helpful for Firaxis.

First of all, a new Religious victory condition. Found 4 religions and have your state religion established in 60% of all the cities in the world.

A Shipyard building that can be built when Galleys are available. They would require a Harbour. They'd give experience points the same way that Barracks do for land units.

Add another 50-100 Years after 2050, with realistic (i.e. plausible) SF technologies, and then make the Space Victory harder, so it won`t happen too early.

Make a way out of the economic dead end one finds himself in when expanding too fast.

How about some older, classic religions that get out-of-date, as soon as one of the 7 big religions spread? Greek/Roman mythology or north-european paganism comes to mind. Or would that be too un-P.C.?

Harder, or just longer? The Space Race is already quite hard with the AI bonuses on the higher levels. Longer is not always better for everyone.

Hmm, longer. Perhabs include some more basic space exploration steps before going extrasolar, like a Mars Mission, or a Moon Base, as world wonders.

I thought we had the Drydock for this...

I think that this is sort of implied with the Paganism Religion civic and also those cities without a religion.

The Drydock is not available until long after galleys become available.

Religions need bonuses and penalties. A politically correct way of doing this would be to have the player select which ones he/she wants. There could be a list of 10 pros and 10 cons and when a religion is founded the player would select from each list. As each attribute is selected, they become unavailable to subsequent religions.

Short range nukes (a later tech to make ICBMs - even now few countries have the ability to send a rocket halfway around the world accurately).

Scaleable aircraft and ship movement (based on map size).

except that history has shown us that newer religions incorporate the previous religions stuff to make sure that they stick. so inheritance can and will be needed...

but... if Firaxis starts getting into religions and 'making decisions' about them, then they'll be attacked for it...

yes, there are plenty of ppl from all religions who have nothing better to do than to annoy everyone else about their religion, and how 'unfair' (no matter how true) the religion is being portrayed. it only takes 1 person to start it.

Yes, it would be too un-PC. From the gingerly way they handled religion, it is obvious they are not going to let this blossom into too much significance in any game product. But remember Salman Rushdie. We don't want Sid or our other buddies at Firaxis to have an international death sentence put on them

Regarding the future, I play with space victory off. I've always found it ridiculous. We made it to the moon in 1969 and that didn't make every competing society fold up culturally, politically, militarily, spiritually, and/or economically. We didn't even become the ascendant superpower until the fall of Communism in 1990, 20 years later.

BUT...I am a big fan of future techs. Loved them in CTP even though some of the military units were corny. (Gotta love those imperial stormtroopers in CTP1 though, I kicked some serious b-tt flying them down on the unsuspecting in their shuttle transports .) The space and underwater cities were great; they looked cool and you could hide away units and technologically superior production in those puppies.

                        Yeah bring back the future.

Oh, I want somebody to work out a system for military Great Persons too. We went from almost exclusively military Great People in Civ3 to none in Civ4.

Some way of changing the AI difficulty halfway through a game. You can play for many hours if stuck on an island on epic or marathon, and only realise how far you have fallen behind once you have Optics and built a fleet.

We lost Armies as well, which defeats the purpose of using Military GP.

the Engineer does the other side of what GP in Civ3 did.

There was a poll about this linked to the apolyton forums, but it seems it has dropped off.
                              What I'd want are:
                              Military Great People
                              More effective and varied WMDs
Less Meltdowns and Global Warming (I swear, Firaxis are a bunch of hippies).
                              More leaderheads!
Charlemange, Rameses, Hitler, Lenin, Xerxes, ... who was the leader of Japan from 1950 to 1970 again?
