Total assets as of opening the save:
1 worker, with 1 improved tile
    1 warrior, 5t from completion

    techs:
    Agriculture
    Hunting
    Mining
    Husbandary
    Masonry
    Bronze
    Writing
    (Wheel in 6t)

Initial plan: 4 Warriors (3 for scouting and escorting), 2 additional workers, and a settler (I already know we're on an island, so no need for additional scouts, tho I would normally build one when playing Cathy).

We're already running slavery so our relative lack of shilelds isn't important. Food = Shields, and in that regard, we are sitting on a production POWERHOUSE!

I'll be back in a bit with an update!

Well, it's 2960 BC, and already, much news to report!

I've named our Scout "Lewis" and our first warrior (the one you had building when I opened the save) "Clark," and they have been busy!

Lewis nabbed 33g from a hut, and then scampered up a forested hill to defend against a marauding lion...a battle, I'm happy to report, ended in victory! He's healing now, and a new warrior is building in Moscow. Meanwhile, I sent Clark over to check out the peninsula to the west of Moscow, and he found copper! This will definitely be the site of our second city, as it will enable us to get a solid ancient age military up and running in no time! I know, we're alone, but we don't know for how long, nor do we know when the barbs might come calling, so we'll make military an early priority!

Screenie of the latest, and I'm back to the game.

Played to 125 AD so far, and here's the scoop:

2800 BC Moscow reaches size 4. 2nd warrior completes. Begins a third.

2760 Lewis wins vs. a lion again (woody 1 promo). worker begins building roads to the new city site.

2680 pottery is ours. now moving to the religion branch 3rd warrior completes and is moving to the new city site. Moscow is building a settler and is optimized for food outputs.

          2560 Lewis beats another lion...showoff.

2440 mysticism is in hand. now to meditation

2320 pause on that research. we'll need fishing, given the special near the proposed city site, and the lack of food bearing terrain. It'll be a small city, but it'll be an important one! Moscow finishes settler and builds worker

2280 St. Pete est. begins barracks. Worker is currently mining the copper. Once that's done, we'll assign st. pete to work it, even tho it'll stall growth. we want the barracks done more than we want a size two city there.

2160 have fishing. now back to meditation

2080 optimize hammer outputs in moscow and begin a work boat. This will be used to work st. pete's fishing special, and moscow can build it much faster than st. pete could. besides, st. pete is working on a very important barracks.

copper's up. That'll help the speed of the barracks.

2000 - meditation is ours. now to priesthood.

1960 island fully mapped. everything we need is right here. we can win this game and ever build a single city outside these borders. not to say that we will, but we could!

1920 workboat completed! now to the library

1880 barb warrior spotted by lewis. barracks completed. 1st axe will be, as soon as the next forest chops.

1800 bc, priesthood in hand. now to code of laws. workboat in position. st. pete starts growing.

1520, lewis, clark, and our axeman are spread out around our cultural borders, on the periphery, watching for barb movements.

1360 library completed. two specialists assigned. we'll try for the oracle, but odds are extremely against us getting it. started much too late.

          1320 90% science

1240 warrior and archer (barb) spotted move to lure warrior to attack

1200 warrior defeated. moving to block archer (axemen, both times) Now there are two archers in sight....gotta be a city somewhere

1160 beaten to the oracle, we take the money and get to work on an axeman. it don't matter that moscow doesn't have a barracks. looks like there's lots of opportunity for promotions!

975 code of laws is ours. That is our licence to expand. Now researching polytheism.

St. pete begins a workboat. once we get the last axe from moscow, we'll have 5, and that's all we need for right now.

875 5th axe completed. now moscow is working on a settler...it's time to get the gold fields in service!

850 st. pete finishes its workboat and starts on the pyramids. another one we won't get, but we don't need more army, and st. pete doesn't need any of the other buildings we can build, soooo....it's free money when someone beats us to it.

800 Great scientist! we turn the specialists off and create the academy in moscow.

750 found the barb city of goth...in the middle of the gold fields. that's okay, we'll keep it AND build ours....they'll only be three tiles apart, but both are well placed, so it doesn't really matter. And it saves us 100h. Cool.

625 workers (under the protection of our massing axemen) have built a road to Goth. It's already connected to our empire.

          550 novgorod established

525 assault goth with 4 axes. lose one. kill 3 archers. Move in. 12g for capturing the city. Clark moves to Nov to be its garrison. nov was working on a spear, but now shifts to barracks. will complete the spear once the barracks are done.

475 beaten to the pyramids. Have enough money to give clark a spearman upgrade. st. pete builds an axe to replace our fallen one.

425 literature is ours. now to math. meanwhile, th barbs continue to spar with us in and around goth. I guess they're ticked off...

300 bc, moscow begins the great library, and we mean to get this wonder. pop and chop will ensure it. The other two we tried for, we knew going in that we couldn't get, but this one is all us.

another barb city spotted in the north country.

200 bc - st. pete begins courthouse

175 math is ours...now to music

100 Alemani (barb city) is attacked with four axes. No losses this time, three archers killed.

Five cities so far, and climbing.

50 BC, workboat completes its circumnavigation of our island. sadly, we do not get a +1 movement bonus for this bold feat, so we retire the workboat on the fishing special north of moscow. i'm gonna eventually put a city up there anyway, so that's a good use for it.

1 ad - now ALL our cities, 'cept for Moscow, are working on courthouses

125 ad - st. pete begins a settler (courthouse complete). Moscow sacrifices 3 points of pop (it was at size 7) to complete the Great Library. It is ours! And now, it's time for bed.

Observations so far: GREAT starting position! I love this island! Got two free cities so far, and lots more room to expand. Will continue the adventure tomorrow!

The reason you can't win on Monarch is because you are not intelligent regarding, dilligent about, obcessive towards and as in love with the game as Velocyrix is.
Simple matter of will to succeed + ability to learn = win.
Vel lacks neither. I lack the will. You ...

Hehe, that was pretty funny, EN, a bit rude but still very funny nonetheless.

That looks like a great game to record, Oracle completed by AI in 1160 B.C. sounds like my games. I question completing the GL by pop-rushing, that's a good bit of gold/science you are missing out because of the cottages around your cap. I would've chopped a forest outside your fat cross, but oh well, I don't mean to nit-pick. I just never had a problem grabbing GL on Monarch, Emperor well is a different story.

I hope there's some new screens soon.
