  • Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!

Thank you Firaxis games, Thank you Sid Meier.
Thank you to every video game magazine that rated this game so highly. For bringing me the absolute worst computer game that I have ever bought.

I can never trust a video game magazine, again. I can never trust a game put out by Firaxis games. I can never trust anything with Sid Meier's name on it. The game was advertised by almost every computer game magazine that I can think of as having "few bugs". Few? The whole game is a bug!

    You can download the patch.
You can spend hundreds of dollars upgrading your memory, buying a new graphic card, and upgrading your computer until you have the exact computer that the game was built for (face it - the game wasn't designed for most computers).
You can update your computer until even your computers calculater has a "4.7" next to it's name.
You can have a computer made by the creator of the world - and you still won't be able to enjoyably play this game.

After reading the forums for about a month, I've come to the conclusion that even after downloading the patch and doing all of the things mentioned above, everyone is still having major problems with the game. The whole game is one giant bug that should have never been put out.

Sadly, Civilization is a trusted name for enjoyable game play. Sid Meier is thought of as a genius. And all of the computer game magazines, websites, etc. really psyched this game up making anybody whose ever read one of their articles to want to go out and buy the game. And who can watch the games official preview without being tempted to buy the game?

    Merry Christmas to us, right?

Screw this. I won't even give this game away as a christmas gift. Here - Merry Christmas - Here's the coolest game of the year... Bugs and all. Oh, what's that? You only have an average computer? Haha, sucks to be you.

If you haven't bought the game yet, don't waist your money. It's honestly not worth it. It's not even worth $15.

Whilst I understand your gripes, I think your reaction is just a *little* on the excessive side. I, for one (and I doubt I am the only), purchased the game before the patch was out and have been playing it successfully from day one with no more bugs than any other games.

Sure, it has far too many issues with particular setups and components, but to say it cannot be enjoyably played by anyone is too far. I'm sorry the game does not work for you but please do not try and ruin everyone else's playing experience.

      Merry Christmas to us indeed!

Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess."

I uninstalled the game. It can be played, but it is not enjoyable. Will try again after the first expansion. The previous release become playble after the first expansion.

I put my computer together for £300 and the game works, with a little patience. Small or lower maps run fine for hours. Standard or large maps need a reboot every couple of hours once the map gets full up.

The game runs great, and I really enjoy playing it.

so, sincerely, Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!

Even allowing that there have been some problems, exactly what percentage of purchasers have a game that doesn't work? ).001? 0.01? 0.1? I doubt it!

The reviewers must be like me then, and played it for several hundred hours without one single crash.

I have an average setup, but it runs better than most games. Runs better than Civ3*

*Large maps in Civ4 is much faster than small maps in Civ3

Before the patch I've had ZERO crashes, after updating the game (a little more than a week ago) I've had a few crashes, but not that many

This is the best game I've played in many years (like since Civ2)

I have had no problems - and my PC is 3 years old. (OK, so I have added memory and new graphics card since then, but the motherboard's the same).

I haven't had one single crash yet, and I've played since it was released. I guess if you have some fairly modern HW, and the latest drivers, you shouldn't need to have any problems.

I think its funny that people who cannot get a game to run always go off on some rant that the game is the worst piece of crap they have ever seen and so on. The real issue isnt that the game is crap, its that you cant get it to run. PCs are widley varying and complex and the games designed for them are becoming more complex to meet our demands. If games were kept in testing long enough to sort out all bugs and to run it on every possible hardware configuration, almost every PC game developer would be out of business. Sometimes you just cant get a PC game to run, its the nature of the trade, suck it up and carry on or go hardcore console.

A reinstall of Windows might also be a plan.
