Well there is Ages of Man 2 if you want a civilization game thats working very well and has many new features added to the CtP2 game engine.

Other game sites have noted many problems with Civ4 but in most cases a ram upgrade is all thats need . I feel within 6 months or less more patches will reduce memory leeks and slowing down of the game towards the end . But for a turn base game I dont understand why you need a top of the line computor to play Civ4.

I am suprised at the number of people who play Civilization that have absolutely NO CLUE to the PC gaming market. I mean, have you ever played another computer game other than Solitaire and Civillization? I mean, if you had then you would know that every game out there has issue with crashes/startups/loading, etc, etc, etc.

If the game does not work on your computer, try the tech forum or ask someone who actually knows something about computers, but don't come here and say the game is junk and doesn't work on anyones computer, that is just FALSE. The Help forum was very busy during the first 2 weeks of the release but now it is empty and the other forums are filled with posts. Why? Because people have solved their problems and are playing the game.

Welcome to PC gaming, you can either learn how to use the forums and ask for help and solve your problem, or you can throw a 2 year old style tantrum, wahhh, wahhhh.

I have to say that I'm having the same problem with the game beeing sooooo sluggish from Renaisance era onward.. unit response time to the mouse klick is several seconds at times ... moving the view from one place to another on the map takes several seconds and the diplo-screen takes several seconds to load and is sluggish. In short - the game becomes almost unplayable due to sluggishness during the later eras. Theese are the exact problems I had with CIV 3 also until I bought a faster computer. Currently I precisely meet the "optimal" recomendations but I recognise all my problems are still caused by the fact my computer beeing too slow ... I'ts yet again the time to take a walk to the computer store ...
        GOWIEHOWIE! Uh...does that
        even mean anything?

This is why people think cell phones cause brain tumors.

After reading the forums for about a month, I've come to the conclusion that even after downloading the patch and doing all of the things mentioned above, everyone is still having major problems with the game.
You can't judge a game's stability by the tech support forum. Even there are 3000 complaints in there, that means there are hundreds of thousands of people playing without any problem.

My computer was $700 a year ago and plays standard maps with no AA but all other details just fine.

I remember when it took some intelligence to use a computer.

It's people like you guys (sorry I know I am using the wrong words here so please forgive me) I mean, people who are fan boys who praises the game and keeps telling people to shut up who are upset with the game.

Let this poster vent and if you don't agree with him, ignore the post and don't say anything.

Saying "good bye and don't come back etc" just gives the Publishers more insentive to release sloppy games,(not saying Civ IV is a sloppy game, since I have a blast playing it, I mean sloppy for being released when not ready)

Come on, Firaxis, or even Take 2 could have had the proper specs for the computer to play the game it was inteneded for, and we shouldn't have to play on small maps when we excede our specs on the box.

We need more posts like these saying that people will not buy games anymore since they are having problems with it. WE NEED the publishers to wisen up and make games good from the begining and not patch later.

You will be seeing more posts like these since WAY TOO MANY TIMES now games are being released before they are ready and patch later. People are finaly getting sick and tired of it, but these comments of the replies don't help and only encourage Publishers to FORCE the Developers to release games when they are ready.

I for one am greatfull that a company called Bethseda is delaying their game since it's not ready. I only wish more companies would do this, and I do believe Take 2 is the Publisher, how ironic.

                    Pwned.

Frankly, you're an idiot if you concluded that from the forum.

The Publishers are eating this up since they know now they can release Civ expansion packs half done, then patch up or the other games not worry about backlash.

Thats the best thing about the Civ series, if they release it half done we finish the rest. Just look at Call to Power and the Apolyton Pack.

Other games don't have such a good fate. Doom 3 was the laughingstock when it came out, etc.

For the vast majority of people it works fine. It's not half-done, it's some people have hardware issues. Go cry into your pillow or something.

lucky for you the game works, if it didn't would you be crying in your pillow? Do you like throwing away money for a game you can't play and couldn't wait to get it?

I agree with some of Yolky's points. I think complaints can be helpful in prompting game designers to stay sharp, not get lazy. It is an unfortunate reality that PC games are more often than not released in incomplete form and then patched. This is only because they can be patched so easily. It's just become kind of a tradition, or something, and that's a shame. If nothing else, this is going to be a liability as PC continues to face the growing console market (XBOX 360 games won't need patches, for example--and I'll be spending MUCH more money on them than on PC games next year).

On the other hand, Civ IV is a pretty complex game (not, of course, from a graphics standpoint or anything, but from the perspective of game concepts and the interaction of those concepts.) This is a big game, in that aspect, and in that way it needs to be released and then subsequently adjusted/modified/expanded. It's one of the good characteristics of Firaxis that they work closely with the gaming communities (like this one), keep track of what we're saying, and in that way make us part of the Civilization team.

                              Just my .02

And BTW, I've had some glitches with this game (which I worked through patiently) but overall it works quite well on my middle-of-the-road systems (512 RAM, for example, with average video cards).
One of these days I'll make 501 posts, and you won't have to look at my silly little diplomat anymore.

I would hope that anyone purchasing a pc game would be intelligent enough to realize that not all games can be played by all machines, even if the minimum specs seem to be met. If its your first pc game, I can understand being upset, as I was like that once upon a time. Now, if a game doesn't function as well as I'd lke it to, I just push it aside for a while pending either a patch or a system upgrade. No need to get bent about it, system conflicts are a fact of computer gaming life.
