Do you think the game plays too fast on 'normal' speed?

I think it´s a bit too fast. Next game I´ll try epic. But as someone said above it can be a real drag waiting for things to happen in ancient era even on normal...

I always play epic (since I discovered normal is too quick).

I don't like Epic actually. The units take as much time to build, and the only difference, in the end, is that your units move faster (vs. the timescale).

So, you end up with many turns where there is nothing to do but wait for your projects to be completed, and with a map that is explored too early.

IIRC, Dearmad has made a mod where units are built as quickly in Epic as in normal. I should try this one

Even the epic game mode is far from long unfortunately... I love the game, but when a normal "normal" game takes 2-3 hours typically and a normal epic game tend to take 3-4 hours and never longer than ~5 hours(so far at least), it's clear something is not right over at the game design section...

However, it is a bit difficult to say really.
Would I have a better computer so that the last two ears would not be so very, very sluggish, then the game speed of course would be so affected and I might find the normal game a bit too quick.
Currently a normal game takes waaaay longer than 10 hours for me to finish witch is enough.

I'm NOT going to try out Epic until I have invested a new computer.

Okay, I might not be the best civ player around, but I do think a bit too...! But half the game is often exploration and clicking on the end turn button. Of course, I do automate workers mostly, that *could* be it.

I probably spend 2-3 hours a game just pondering stuff like city placement and specialisation, yet you can finish an entire game in that time. You must be a very clever person. What level do you play at, btw?

I don't think the designers have got it wrong. Most people are able to spend a looong time on their civ games.

Any chance of a link to that? It seems a little unrealistic for a civ to have only 2 cities by 1000BC :P

Sorry, I'm far from a clever person. I tend to just follow the AI's recommandations for city placement, and let the AI run the workers mostly. I'm more of a mediocre player, and play on Noble difficulity, usually loosing or winning at that level by just a small margin. I probably could have done much better if I thought well and much on all these things you do, but for me the game is supposed to be fun and not something to break my brain to pieces on...
