The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.

I tried harkonnen's patch quickly and instead of a black screen i know get weird graphical corruption and i can no longer ctrl-alt-del out, have to hit reset button. Maybe with some tweaking of the settings it might work.
haven't tried loading my save from the map screen as suggested by pickles. will try that when i can.
Ok, if i have the patch and i load a small map first, i can load my game.
I took a few turns and it froze, but i could ctr-alt-del out and close it ok. the process was using 100% cpu and 663meg RAM (and climbing). Maybe with a few more tweaks it'll work ok. Very weird how it'd run fine and now wont load the game. when it did load, the leaders were jerky, zooming out was really slow and scrolling was a bit laggy. must say that i had none of these problems when i was playing this game before i saved and quit.
