Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
My computer simply restarts when i try and load a game. It starts new ones up fine and its all good, but when i am trying to load one the loading screen gets to full and it says done at the bottom and then the whole computer just turns off...
i have tried increacing my virtual memory, thinking it might be that the game crashes when it cant load up the save file, but no joy...
i also tried re-installing the whole game, and the v1.09 patch.
I can run any other game of standard map size and bigger with no problems, but when i come to load a game it just crashes...however when i am in a game and i try to load an autosave, it works...which is why i am thinkining it is a virtual memory problem
good to know there is some1 else with a similar problem...
it is the same with me...it used to load games, but now it wont even load stuff that is 500bc or later...i think there must be somekind of problem with setting hup the game...a memory problem maybe
i really wish firaxis would have spent 6 months longer on thier beta testing and got all of these glitches sorted before they releaced it
Was once able to load games.
Cannot load anymore.
Crash occurs after 'Finishing' tool bar appears full
Returns to desktop
Game works fine in 1 sitting (meaning its useless)
I downloaded your save file and successfully opened it. Have you had a chance to try loading my save file?
I looked through past posts here and on Civ Fanatics. Many others report the same (or similar) problem loading save files. As far as I can tell, only one person reported a possible fix (although his problem was different: He could open his save files, but the game crashed shortly thereafter).
His solution was to disable autosaves. If you want to try this, find the shortcut named _Civ4Config (should be in your main Civ 4 installation folder). Double-click on the file to open it in Notepad. Find the following entry
; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 4
and change the 4 to a 0.
If that doesn't work, and if you want to continue troubleshooting, please post again.

Thanks for your post Petek. I can load your save fine. Might have to try disabling autosave, not sure how it could help but worth a go.
I've uploaded my save to rapidshare [HERE] as it is larger than the 500k limit. If any can try to load it i'd appreciate hearing whether they can or not.
My save is from 1890 whereas Petek's is from only 1310, dunno if that makes a difference.
tried to load the 1310 game and it didnt get there...it restarted my computer as it went into the game...so i thought i would try the auto save thing you suggested...no luck there either...it still rebooted my computer...
going back to my origional theory about there being some kind of memory startup faliure...i tried to load a game ~1AD...and it got in to it ok...then i tried to load the game i uploaded here...and it worked...i got into the game and was able to finnish it up to 2040AD no problems!
But it still crashes when i try and load any other game from the main menu...i havent tried what i did with other save files yet but it may be worth a try...this is such a bizzare problem!
There is a Major Memory issue in Civ IV. A fix has been produced that really does work. The thread is sprinting towards 32,000 hits at the time of this post - all in 4 Days !
Its not a dubious amateur hack. If you get CTDs - slow down - reboots - massive save files etc - go now to this thread, its put Firaxis to shame
Current version of the fix is not compatible with 1.52. It either does nothing or crashes. Update addressing this issue is on its way.
The patch I was coding during last month is finally out.
The patch is compatible with 1.00 and 1.09 versions of civ4.
So, here we go.
You will need 3...
