Couldn't you wait a year, it would have been "retired" then.

You should care. That's the date the Yanks decided to enter the war.

Otherwise, you might be speaking German at the moment.

What makes you think operation Sealion would ever have started?

Germany had no hope of winning the war with or without U.S. help. The U.S. just shortened it by about 10 years and millions of lives.

But nevertheless. From a historical and military standpoint, 12/7 is an important day. It has shaped U.S. policy for better and for worse for the past 64 years. It's the reason why people like Bush feel the authority to use pre-emptive strikes. From a military standpoint it ushered the end of the great battleships and the emergence of seaborne air power.

I understood quite fast what anniversary you meant, but that's probably because I'm a socalled history buff, 97 % or something of my friends would probsably just have said: "Eh?".(and now that our new and glorious green/socialistic government has decided that WW1 and WW2 are going out of high school, it won't get better...) So you better be more specific in the future.

I highly doubt that since I'm not in Europe.

Besides, the US was indirectly in the war well before that date. Lend-lease comes to mind, as well as the u-boat patrols in the Atlantic to stop German subs sinking US ships.

Oh, and all the US pilots in England, and the sharing of intel to England.

US might not have "officially" been in the war, but they were employing strategic resources in a battle against the Germans.
