  • I just completed a huge, epic game with 18 civs, at high graphic settings, and it didn't crash once. Not a single, solitary time. Wonder movies ran flawlessly. Occasional graphics glitch, but only very, very minor stuff (loss of texture in some ocean squares).

You may answer here or at CFC, whatever you prefer. You may also PM/mail me (headden@karelia.ru)
Is this release more stable than the zipped file you linked to in a previous message in this thread?

Well, I didn't know when I posted it (and it was the reason to post it inside the thread, not just replasce post #1). So far, according to CFC replies, it's as stable (i.e. no crashes, sometimes better), but it is slower. In 2 cases even slower than 1.09 unfixed.

I am working with the next intermediate release, this one is considered a "failed" effort.

Overally, if you prefer "download, config and forget" style with my fix, go to post #1 With intermediate version I tried to avoid "config" step - no luck.

        • Thanx.

I have no problems configuring programs.

Yes, you will avoid lag. But probably you'll get CTDs instead as it happened to many 2Gb users. Though, CTDs with 2Gb are less often as lags with 1Gb.

Also, 99% CTDs (crashes to desktop) in civ4 are caused by memory usage, so almost everyone with unexplainable CTDs on 2Gb systems avoided them with my fix, just in case you'll need it...

thanks for the feedback. I did download your patch and if I installed it right it seems to be helping. FYI I have had very little problems with CTD with this game. I have heard alot about these crashes so I consider myself lucky......

                • This was what i needed.

My computer crashed when huge map size was starting to grow big.
                  This one fixed it all.

Thank you for an exellent patch.

                  • I get a new graphics glitch after loading this fix. Late in the game, after popping up an advisor window, the screen stays very dark after the window closes. I think this is natural behavior that normally pops back to normal, that instead is just getting stuck. At this point I eventually hang. Didn't have this problem before applying Harkonen's patch. I will probably go back to 1.09 as I had less problems but a little more slow down.

You may try reducing 'vid_mem_usage'. 60 should be stable value for 128Mb video cards. 150 - for 256Mb video cards.

                      • I have a 1.4 Ghz Celeron, 512 Mb RAM computer with a 128Mb Nvidia Geforce 4. Really, I didn't have many CTDs, but things did get slow. . . and changing among advisor screens took forever, but not anymore. Chaging my display to 16-bit helped somewhat(I forget who posted that, but thanks) and changing my card performance settings to "High Performance" from "Quality" (again I forget who posted that, but thanks too.), and windowed mode didn't seem to do anything. However, the most dramatic all-around improvement has been this memory-fix. Thanks Harkonnen!!!

                        • Some news on the Official Patch from the Firaxis Team - low on detailas as is right and proper of course, but confirms the Patch is "soon".

Define "soon" of course, but looks like not that long now.

Just wanted to post some info, now that my finals are done =), not sure if it will be of use. I'm kinda skipping over some of the past couple days' developments, sorry! I am an nVidia GF 4 Ti 4200 user. I haven't been experiencing any of the bugs with the intermediate release. D3D9Query = 1...

(contains no 'zlib1.dll', it's just an update for those who are already using post #1 or post #640 versions).
