  • General Civ Questions

If you trade a comoddity like spice to another player and you only have 1 do you lose the benefit of it?

Is it possible to change the victory conditions within the world builder mode? I prefer playing on the huge Earth map but when I try for conquest victory I would like to disable domination.

Does the epic game actually go for longer? Or it just takes longer to build things?

    Thanks.

    Yes on both accounts.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

The strange thing about the epic game is it takes longer to discover a tech and to build. Should be just the former.

I don't think so, that way you could build any improvement in any city. So far, I'm fine with Epic, it just feels right.

Solomani: tech research and build time takes longer, so you have more time to run around with your forces. If you feel you don't have enough time to conquer your foes, Epic might be the solution. It's still a bit quicker than civ3 I think.

Thanks all. A few more questions:

If you build a city on a forest or comodity hex (like spice) will you autmatically get the benefit of the hex as if it was fully upgraded? Or does the forest/comoddity get removed?

Is the fantasy game/map option out somewhere? That sounds like fun.

I agree, epic should halve the cost of units and double the cost of tech. If it did that, I wouldn't play anything else. As it is I just turn off tech trading and play normal speed. Ends up playing about how I'd like.

The city centre has the same production regardless where you build it, so it is fine to put it in a desert tile if you have productive ones surrounding the desert. It will clear a forest or a jungle if you put it there.

If there is a special resource you can use it after you discover the appropiate tech.

i think building units should be quicker in epic but not buildings...

Is this a difference between the demo game and the issued version? In the demo, some locations give 2 hammers when you build a city.

Are you sure of that? I remember reading somewhere that if you put a city on a resource, you won't be able to aquire it anymore.

That seems like a good idea to me, because otherwise you could plop cities on top of important strategic resources to prevent an enemy cutting off your supply of it by pillaging the tile improvement (at least, they'll have to work harder to pillage all roads leading out of that city).

I like to found my first city on one if I see one.

Yeah, it makes surely a difference, the first worker is built a lot faster.

Yup. Found that out accidentally when an iron ore was discovered under Beijing.

I assumed that as well as thats how it was in the other CIVs. But never actually checked.

My mistake then. I will have to try this out - useful way to protect strategic resources.
