When luck negates any possibility of winning every game then people will move to other games where they can win every game. As I said before, some of us come on here to be competitive, not because we like playing the game for the sake of playing it. It's why warcraft has like 90,000 people playing it. Those types of games attract more people because there's more human interaction and because you can be dominate based on your skill.
Bizarre. I can't think of any professional in any sport who wins every game, or even expects to. It just doesn't happen - not even in chanceless games like Chess.

As to your overall attitude, I relish a battle, and I certainly agree that an AI is no substitute for a human player. But it's not about trying to "dominate" or crush an opponent *outside of the game*. That's just sad, to be frank.

The only game out there that requires no luck is Chess (and possibly the board game of diplomacy - I cant remember if that has dice)

so if you want no luck - play chess - otherwise you HAVE to accept that games are always going to be a % luck.

      • Mergle, add this to you list of sad things about SLD:
I guess what it really comes down to is that I have always been competitive in everything I do. I don't waste time on things when outside forces influence the outcome.
He claims not to be one dimensional in his gameplay, which, if true, would be pretty miraculous seeing as by his own assertion he is completely one dimensional in life.

Even the combat system which SLD is so completely Ga Ga over is based on luck! Every combat round makes use of a random number generator.

You're right, if you cannot tolerate luck, play chess.

I'm particularly intrigued by how he managed to run his own business without it being influenced by "outside forces".

              • Ok, so back to the point then, why are you guys demanding maps that have more luck in them when there are maps out there that reduce the luck in game that is already full of it? For that matter, why are you trying to reduce or remove any human interaction in a game that already has very little? I think it's pretty obvious, but I'd like to hear the reasoning behind this.

Life is different from a computer game. Not sure how you can even compare the two.

                  • Actually im quite surprised you havent demanded to play without the bonuses that the leaders come with.

Seems to me that one person gets bonuses that the other one doesnt - a bit like a random map gives different things to different people.

I know that you control that - but you dont control what the other person picks...

Who ever said they were trying to limit interaction? I am playing a PBEM game right now that has 4 players and no AI on a duel map. Is that interactive enough for you?

                          • I was referring to games. Yet again you dorks take the most literal interpretation of something and then apply it to every possible situation. It's kind of like tennis, when it gets really windy that is an outside force. However, that force is equal for both players. Land on the other hand is not equal for both players. Get it? Good. It's about equality.

                            • Oh, and guess what!

Not everone got exactly the same start as everyone else!

                              And guess what else!

Not one of us is whining!

But SLD probably can't even IMAGINE such events.

Apparently you missed the part where our game was on a tiny hub map and was demanded by Krill no matter what. Is that interactive enough for you?
