Did you use disk2 to play it? It is misstated, you need the install disk to play (disk 1).

I also got a similar error when I re-installed Civ 4 for the nth time. Very strange.

          Oh that.

Yeah, that seems to happen if you use a custom install path. The installer will still install the patch, so don't worry.

            i don't think so....

the patch doesn't go anywhere....it's right after i open it....i downloaded and tried to install as a standalone in the civ 4 directory AND tried to go through civ 4/advanced/check for updates....

ALSO build date is 10/18 not today

              Not sure what you said.

If you use the advanced options to download the patch, it should automatically install it for you.

I can also see this happening with a pirated version of the game ...

I got that error message at the end when I installed the 1.09 patch on my wife's computer (we bought two $50 copies of course). But it didn't mean anything. The patch did install properly. It works.

did you install on one drive and attempt to play it on another

                    makes a differnce for me

I installed on the dvd tray drive
If I insert on the regular tray, it says I need to install

i put the patch in c:\program files\app data where the default install is.....i try to run it and get that message....does it have to go over a clean install or something?? i tried to install the patch by itself AND tried to do it from the game.
