I guess I am not doing too bad then, considering this is my first contact with strategy games.

If I may, one answer prompted a question:

      Dis writes:
"I should note that I only have 9 civilizations on a huge map. Gives me plenty of room to expand. . I hate being crowded in. I know it's an advantage to the human because the ai really would take so long to send units to attack me."

Where lies the advantage? I don't understand what the variables or cause/effect are here?

      Ciao,

      /p
because the AI units may be obsolete by the time he gets to me. Though I am exaggerating a bit. As they aren't that far away from me.

In fact, despite a huge map, all the players started fairly close to each other leaving large parts of the world empty.

5 hr 50 minutes last night. Prince level (the level that's one harder than Noble), Continents, Tiny.

Each player (2 AIs and me) ended up with a continent to themselves so there was no war. I won Space Victory by overwhelming production advantage. I was able to run 100% science toward the latter portion of the game and had forge--factory--plant in about 7 productive cities.

I finally finished my game on a huge map with 7 opposing AI's (8 total).

Amazingly it said my total time was 4 hours and 48 minutes! I know I spent more time than that- I think. I think their clock is ****ed up.

I did okay until near the end, then it got a bit slow. And when I got the final victory, is when my computer really slowed down and I got a windows virtual memory low message (which I didn't see until I exited the game). It took me like 5 minutes to exit the game after my victory.

Do you mean the replay movie that shows how all the turns progressed?

In the Hall of Fame, there is a little square to the left of each score. You can click it to watch a replay of all of your turns.

For how long do yours games last on average?
Do you ever start and win a game in under 2 hours?
Do you consider yourself to be an experienced CIVver?

                Thanks for all comments!
Never more than 3 hours, but I play on duel against 2 AIs. I micromanage my cities a bit and I allways micromanage my workers. Its great to see another swede on this site!!!!!!!

I dislike any maps less than standard. They don't feel much like Civ to me, more like a RTS game, too quick, small and aggressive. Playing on Normal game speed, my games took me from 12 hours up, usually in the 12-15 range, although I have had a quick one of 8 hours. On Epic, which I actually prefer, it's 15 hours for a fast game, 20 for others. That I like, this is my preferred length for a game.

Just finished a Huge Epic Terra w/10 AI game; 44 hours.

Lost as Rome without Iron (until I got to the New World); that bleepin' Cyrus beat me in the space race.

I'd be overexcited if I had all the time to play every day .
