If you set this poll up for people who haven't updated yet (like me), then why did you not include a "I have yet to update" option

Also a poll is not a real poll without the banana option
This space is empty... or is it?

I guess I'll update, I was hesitant after seeing all these threads with problems. Here goes nothing...

Although the no pillage sounds is almost reason enough not to patch. I'm serious. I like to hear the screams.

The game runs a little better now, it crashes on completely different areas of the game than before... No more click on the minimap or advisor windows and crash.. but there are plenty of other random times where it crashes that I haven't figured out yet.

Wonder movie playback is atleast watchable now, the video does stutter but I have the game on 4xAA so I'll try setting that in the video card and flush the cache tonight.

All in all the game runs better sure, but they have a good deal more work to go before its as crashproof as an early blizzard release. (the later ones haven't fared so well)

on second thought, I'm not going to patch. Not if they removed the pillage sounds. I hate when they mess around with the game like this.

Just copy the old pillage sound to your CustomAssets folder and it'll be used instead of the new one.

Be sure that AA option is set back to zero in the game menu graphics option.

Only set the AA via external video card setting.

The in game AA routine is not compatible with the BINK player.

                  Have you tried that?

I spent hours on this. The original 1.0 version had no file called Pillage.wav It used a common file called CityRevolt.wav used for two things in game.

Ther pillage sound was a new thing added to the game (a Whoosh sound) in patch 1.09; but alas is does not play at all. there is no sound to replace since the code to cause the sound is not working.

They did QA this patch I assume? They added the new sound, but it is not calling any sound file to play.

yeah I just copied the file. I noticed a sound file called strike. I never heard that. What is a strike? Has anyone had one?

The strike sound is what it is; people grumbling in protest they are not going to work. I never seen it in use by the game yet.

Have you got the Pillage sound to occur in game after the patch? I rely on it to hear (as an alarm) if the enemy AI is pillage my land off screen.

I cannot get the pillage sound to work. Neither for me pillaging, or the AI pillaging me. Sometimes they are different files. Such as is the case when you capture a city, or when the enemy takes one of your cities.

Can you confirm there is no Pillage sound at all?

All I hear is the unit's normal attack sound.

No "Woosh Thump!" No crashing building sound. Nothing.

The 'strike' sound is played when your units go on strike because you can't pay them (negative income, and 0% research).

I had that happen in one of my early conquest games (couldn't afford my army even at 0% research). But I don't recall the strike sound. oh well.

I can't get 1.09 to install. it says it is installing, and the status bar is full, but it never finishes. Maybe I should have waited another 10 mintues. I may try again.

The installer is a loose squirrel.

That is normal. It will also give you an error message. Just click on it and even though it sits there, it really is done.

That download was NOT meant for regular official "stand alone" download and manual install yet. It was meant for the auto update HASSLE through the internet connection.

Some kind soul made a quick 'n dirty EXE installer for it, for manual patching. Us old gronards like our patches in hand to install. I like knowing what files it is changing.

yeah I miss the old days of manual patching.

Yeah I got the error message. I tried the update again, and it says no updates are available. So I guess it downloaded. But is there a way to check the game version in game? Or out of game?

edit: I see my exe file says it's 1.09. So here goes nothing. Time to start a new game with no tech trading.

Sure. When you start the game to the splash menu. select Advanced options on the screen.

1). There is one spot to click on that says 'about this build'. It will tell you what your game version is.

2).Plus without starting the game, right click on the EXE to see properties, loomk at version. It wil say 1.09.1722 at the top.

So, try it out, and tell me if you hear the pillage sound??
