Terrible
Hello,
I'm frustrated:
1) installation of demo only with automatically store of files on drive c:/
Goodness, this stupid and ignorance Windows setting. Never seen that one does split his HDD to several logical drives and maybe has more than one HDD? And that c:/ is w/o enough free space meanwhile?
2) started demo on my laptop, start tutorial and see: nothing. Means, I see some images of the mini map, and some units (?), but all other is black. No land, nothing.
Excellent tutorial. Now I know that I shouldn't buy the game and waste money.

To me it seems a really DUMB move on Firaxis' part to release a demo just a few days before a patch for the full game that fixes MAJOR video issues and does not include those fixes in the demo as well.
If it is the intention of Firaxis to give the impression that this game is not worth buying they are going about it the right way.

Just move the Sid meiers folder to another drive, I haven't tried this across difference drives but I know that it works in different folders on the same drive as it allowed me to run different versions at the same time. After you have moved the whole folder make sure to delete the old shortcut on your desktop and create a new one pointing to the new location.

There is no random map generator; you can only play on a single small map. The map has 4 civs (Greece, Rome, India, Inca), and you can play as any of those four.
The tech tree ends in the third age.
You can't save/load games.
Maybe someone will figure out a way around these limits, but I'm sure Firaxis put some effort into making it difficult.

Demo Issue
I'm hoping they issue an updated demo. I'll try the workaround for it so I can get an idea what Civ 4 plays like, but I won't buy the game if I can't see that it will work. Unfortunately I can't see myself explaining to a certain spousal unit the need to buy a new graphics driver 'just to play some dumb computer game'. Sigh. Many are cold, but few are frozen. No more durrian, please. On On!
