Thanks for the link! The demo verified that Civ4 will run on my laptop with its 32 MB GeForce 440 Go.

Does anyone definitively know if being able to run the demo is a true indicator of being able to run the full game? I want to get the game today, but I don't want to be stuck with an unplayable app. I can run the demo fine.

Well... I got only BLACK landscape with the first city in the middle of it. My Radeon 7500 is showing its limits... maybe someone has a solution?

That's fog of war. You are only supposed to see your city until you explore.

1- patch the game, if possible via the demo
                2- update your drivers

The Black Terrain problem has been addressed in the last patch.

                  Can the Demo be patched?

                      Thx, I'll patch

oups... just tried now and it looks like the patch doesn't apply to the demo

I doubt it is going to be much use for most of us as I suspect the majority of this forum has bought the game already

Well I don't fit in most, and I might have enough of a demo simply giving a look at how it is. Or I could end up getting it a long time from now, just as I still didn't see StarWars 3

So if anyone knows how to get rid of this everything-black situation, great.

                            Hi

GO to technologies XML file and change Mapvisible to 1 everwhere

                            This will fix the problem

                              perhaps I was too vague

go to C: program files -- firaxis -- CIv IV demo -- assets - XML -- now open Techinfo.xml in wordpad

                              go to edit, replace ALL

                              bMapVisible>0
                              with

                              bMapVisible>1

This will make whole map visible but is temp workaround for demo (it makes it so all techs make the whole map visible, essentially, but at least you can see what is going on) .let me know if this doesn't work..
