        I don't think its a good fit with the new Civ 4 tech tree approach of having to learn different techs just to do basic worker functions. People would win or lose games on whether their first worker could get busy immediately or sat around for 20 turns because the semi-random research gave them hunting, archery and animal husbandry when they needed agriculture. The current Civ game has been balanced around that goal of picking your own path through the tree to achieve very different results.

          I support blind research for the older ages, as it would be more realistic (yes I used the R word). Maybe in the modern age you could gain the ability for more focussed research.

            Then start everybody with agriculture.

            In fact, the invention of agriculture is the only reason why people switched from a nomadic lifestyle.
