  • Post the settings that have given you the most fun!

We all have different preferences for the game, but I've found that my preconceived idea of what would make the "most fun" Civ game haven't held up in Civ4. I thought a huge map, max civs, Epic length would be it, but I actually found that more tedious than a smaller game.

So here's the most fun I've had so far:

    Map Size: Large
    Type: Terra
    # of Civs: 12 (crowded! )
    Difficulty: Noble
    Victory Conditions: All but diplomatic
    Aggressive AI: No
    Speed: Standard
    All other conditions default
    Civ played: Germans/Bismarck

So what settings have given you the best time?

    Arabs/Saladin
    RIAA sucks

I meant random as "several" and normal random, I rarely actually chose a leader anyway. I can't remember which I have played so far on that map to be honest.

One of my favourite leaders is Bismarck though.

Highland games can be very tough btw.

                Map size: Large.
                Type: Great Plains. (Love them!!!)
                # of Civs: Default.
                Difficulty: Prince.
                Victory Conditions: All but space.
                Agressive AI: No.
                Raging Barbarians: Yes!!!
                Speed: Epic.
Civ Played: Anyone with one or more of Industrial/Agressive/Creative.

Btw I find Highlands to be extremely easy (same with Great Plains). They seem to favor my expansion boom / resource grab / Axemen strategy. I find islands maps much harder since I'm much more limited in my resource whoring.

Terra is also great fun, but the AI is a bit dysfunctional when it comes to new world expansion.

Here's one I just started. I wanted a quick, nasty fight, so it's:
                  Map size: duel size
                  Type: custom continents (4)
                  # of civs: 4 (one on each continent)
                  Starting era: industrial
                  Victory: Conquest, Domination, Culture.
                  Speed: standard
                  Difficulty: normal

I chose Alexander, plus Aggressive civs for the AI (Napoleon, Genghis Khan, & Tokugawa). I did not choose the "Agressive AI" option (figured I didn't need to). But nobody has attacked anyone else! I think Genghis and Napoleon are having tea parties. So I've started amassing my armies to see if Tokugawa is a pushover, and hopefully precipitate the global firestorm I crave. Next time I'll choose the agressive AI or permanent war options.

My favorite maps, though, are medium-large with lots and lots of civs, everything else pretty much default. Random personalities can be fun. Terra maps are friggin' awesome - one of the best additions to the game.

Civs played: Me as Russia and my friend as China

By far the most epic game of civ i've ever played.. we've played to around 1700AD and theres still TONS of unexplored land.. and we havent met 4 of the AI's yet.
So far its been a heck of a struggle against hordes of barbarians.. at one point i lost three of my cities to them and the barbarians rivalled me culturally, but i took them back with a horde of horse archers.. meanwhile my friend met some nasty neighbours (yay for monty) and immediately got into conflict with him..
as of our last play session my friends army of ho-cho-ni and knights were duking it out with montys well fortified cities.. and my army of horse archers were keeping my borders as safe as possible from the encroaching barbarians (and germans... damn those germans) as i mass produced settlers to spread my glorious russian culture to the resource heavy east!

                          Map Size: Normal
                          Type: Greater Plains (rocky-temperate)
                          # of civs: 5
                          Victory conditions: military, domination, cultural
                          Aggressive AI: no
                          Barbarians: on
                          Permanent Alliances: on
                          Difficulty: Monarch

Started on the far west side of the map (GP map isn't a round-globe map so it makes the border completely safe) and started to send settlers building cities in pure strategically way. Founded 15 cities surrounded by mountains, protected by rivers, hills and walls. Managed to convert to Christianity Spain, my closest enemy, which becomes my best friend right after converting, protecting me from England. Declare war to France and destroy them, but lose more than 30 years in modern ages, England and Russia take huge leaps forward in tech advances.

Ally with Spain and declare war to England.

13 years later, England razes Barcelona and wipes off Spain.

Russia declares war as well. They conquer all of France and seize Dusseldorf, the biggest fort on the north frontier, home of the SDI.

Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg receive an ICBM shower

                          England mech seize Berlin

                          End!
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
