    Hi Arsenal...long time, no see.

I would have to say that the earliest we will see the patch is later next week...but I still wouldn't mind being surprised with an earlier release.

      Hi Arsenal...long time, no see.
Spent a bit of time in a spider hole in the outskirts of Takrit. But a new Civ game has a way of bringing one out of the woodwork.

On topic: Since upgrading, haven’t had any real problems except with a custom Gigantic map (1.5 times Huge) which CTD in the latter parts of the game. Ran well, no real lag time, but the game would just suddenly disappear and there was my wallpaper. Was hoping to fire up that map again, but won’t try without the patch.

Right on point, why can't we have food credit for a pasture full of horses? It used to bug the heck out of me in Civ3 that we didn't get food when we got wool. Wadya think happens to the sheared sheep, particularly when they get old?
As for the fellow that thinks it's only food for "primitive peoples," I doubt if the French consider themselves "primitive," (even if some members of Congress do, Lafayette, we ain't here I hear they eat a lot of it.

As far as chariots without horse-husbands (naayyy), may I point out that you can get armed sailing vessels without gunpowder and I think you could get some mounted units in Civ3 before horseback riding, or maybe that last was the Ancient Med mod.

As far as the patch, I don't think we can expect too much. They're probably getting as much new feedback now as they did before the patch. I think they realized early on that they had to do something fast for public relations purposes because the outcry was deafening, no matter how much Gamespy, etc said they loved it I don't think they have had enough time to fix everything that's cited on this thread. Look for Patch II, The Sequel

Well, I'm not getting into this argument between lappies and deskies, but my deskie is a P4 3.06 with the 512 RDRAM and 128 mb Radeon card and I'm crashing all over the place.

There are a lot of game testers here on this site who would take exception to that comment. For pete's sake people, they can't test it on every possible system out there, and for MOST people it works fine. Sheesh.

Do I need to say anything about Pitboss not being included in the original product release???? I'm anxious to see how that performs.
They announced well before the release that Pitboss would be a later addition, so this wasn't a surprise.

not by any reasonable definition of most that i've seen.
it's just my opinion. can you dig it?

From reading a lot of this help forum, depends on what video card you're using to say how much trouble you've had with Civ 4. With my 6800GT, I had to downgrade my driver version and turn off my Antialiasing and Anisotropic settings.

There also seems to be problems with the games sound system and what sound option you choose.

Other people had problems due to what mouse driver they were using.

Another problem is an apparent memory leak that eats up all your virtual memory. This has led to people recommending 2 to 2.5Gb XP swap file settings.

I would define most as more than 50%. While a forum is more likely to have an over-representation of people experiencing problems with the game, even here more than 50% of the population don't have trouble with the game.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

There were also a number of video card specific fixes.
I hope this stops my computer from freezing solid due to what I believe is a video card problem.

I had a similar problem with my Radeon 9550 card, Urban Ranger but-since I downgraded to Radeon 9250-have had nothing but smooth sailing since. Now though I get the memory leak which-or some reason-I didn't seem to get before-wierd??

I agree completely; 48% is such a ridiculously small percentage. I think most of these people can play the game just fine, they just choose not to because they would rather complain.
Contrary to some people's unproductive whining, it is completely unrealistic to expect that beta testers (even if each of them spent TWO HOURS testing the game) should expect to come across such an insignificant set of errors.
My utter thanks and congratulations go out to Firaxis, Take Two, 2K, and the whole team for such a fantastic game! Programming a computer game, much like nation-building, is very hard work. People just need to accept that 48% percent of the time, things are going to go badly. If your game crashes, you clearly hate freedom.

                            Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has the same problem running Civ 4 that i'm having.

When I try and run the game i get en error report message with this error signature:

                            AppName: civilization4.exe AppVer: 0.21.0.1674 ModName: ~df394b.tmp
                            ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00084c9c

I've got a GForce 6200 (latest drivers) and all my othe specs meet the recommended requirements on the box.

Has anyone else had this problem? Have they managed to fix it?
I'm worried that if it's not a common problem it won't be fixed by the patch.

                            Martin.

I don't have a memory leak problems either. If the game runs for hours - which is a huge if - there's no slowdown or anything I can observe. However, getting it to run that long is a big problem.

A strange thing is, if I start a game, it runs fine for hours. However, if I load a saved game, it freezes my computer solid after a few turns.

I'm perfectly willing to accept that software will have bugs - its the nature of the beast. But i do generally expect it to work out the box on a 6 month old system made up of components from mainstream suppliers. But I'm also reasonably happy to wait for the patch on the assumption that this should fix the problems.

But i do get really annoyed at people posting that any problems i have are my fault, i'm making them up or that i should be grateful to have spent £25 on a shiny new coaster. And what has freedom got to do with anything ?
