  • Firaxis Talks Patch: In Final Testing

Dennis Shirk, Manager at developer Firaxis Games, sent the following message to Apolyton Civilization Site's administration to share with the community regarding the status of Civilization IV's first patch.

    Hello everyone!

I've heard from many of you via the Firaxis website Contact Us form (many thanks for all the dxdiag files and savegames) and wanted to say thanks for all the feedback and detailed bug reports that were sent up.

I just wanted to let everyone know that as of [this] Monday afternoon, the patch was sent to [publisher] 2K [Games] for final testing, so barring any problems in Q[uality] A[ssurance], we will be releasing it shortly.

Some of the highlights include multiple A[rtificial] I[ntelligence] improvements and tweaks, worker behavior tweaks, MANY game play improvements (ex Animal Husbandry reveals horses), promotion tweaks, a softer pillage sound (requested by many, many people), fixed diplomatic exploits (gold for gold, peace treaty exploit), multiplayer tweaks (Hot seat, Lobby, etc.), memory, caching and performance improvements, etc. There were also a number of video card specific fixes.

To those of you having problems, thanks for your patience. Our guys were working around the clock with your detailed feedback to produce this patch. For those of you having no problems, it's only going to get better.

    Huzzah!

Sounds like they got some nice tweaks in there along with the technical fixes.

Animal husbandry revealing horses is a step backwards, IMHO. Animal husbandry is the result of seeing animals, not the other way around.

        memory, caching and performance improvements...
Thanks for that, Firaxians... And I hope the damn "F5" issue is already addressed by the patch..?

Darn they found the gold for gold exploit!
Glad to see they are so on top of things.

Guess I wasn't the only one that thought the pillaging noise was irritating.

Sent for final testing a couple of days ago. Good news indeed.

But once you have studied them, then you know where they will make their habitat, and be able to find (and capture) more of them.

I do hope Ironworks was fixed. I don't like broken things like that... makes me sad.

It does say MANY gameplay fixes. I would say something broken is something to be fixed. But since there are probably alot of things not quite right (particularily things like documentation in civilopedia, memory/grphx problems, etc), it would be pointless to list them all until the patch is tested and approved. If they thought something was fixed, and it ended up breaking something else during further testing, then telling us now would be foolish. IW doesn't seem like it would break something else though. Lets hope.

Now, I have no experience with Ironworks, but from what I have read people are upset that you can build it where you get no iron or coal bonuses. They seem to be upset that they pay so much for all those free engineers.

Upset that it gives no production bonuses regardless of whether iron and/or coal are in the city's radius. (I know some people have claimed otherwise, but it's definitely not working properly).
