Restarted several times, got the exact same spot.

    How would you know though?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

If you don't know where you are then you can't be playing CIV very well.

After a couple of times where I suspected it looked the exactly the same (same looking hill and river, lake always off to the northeast), I restarted a couple of times and opened up the editor where I could see the whole map and confirm it.

Hmm, sounds a bit Wierd. I wonder why it happened though?

versatile- er, I mean I have different starting points
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Simple solution, play tropical instead of temperate. The main annoyance there is that you'll have to content with jungles EVERYWHERE. Jungles can be cleared though. Just requires an annoying focus on Iron Working before you can actually improve any tiles.

Hmmmm.....playing mostly archipelagoes, I find I almost always start somewhat east and a little north of dead center most of the time. Maybe 12-20 tiles away from the center. I know because I have to use the reveal whole map trick to play. But yeah, on more landmassy maps, I do tend to be near the South Pole a lot and tundra and ice is somewhat constricting.
.......shhhhhh......I'm lurking.......proud to have been stuck at settler for six years.......
