I build rails most places, but not everywhere even now.

If railroads gave no bonuses except movement, would you build them on every square?

Well, you have the workers, why not put them to work.==========================

It's hard to counteract, but intelligent placement of forests and bunkers, and leaving railroads out of certain squares, definately helps your defenses more than it hurts them. Railroading *every* square in your territory to "help with defenses" is stupid. It might work against an AI player, but it will get you killed against a halfway decent human player.Last edited by Fitz; November 15, 2005, 23:41.Fitz. (n.) Old English

To be honest, I would rather like a normal looking railroad system (eg, connecting from one city to the next) instead of spamming it everywhere. The problem is, I just can't be bothered microing my workers at that point in the game, and since they are all on auto network or full auto, they start doing the railroad spam for me.

I actually don't mind the rails-everywhere look. I don't know why, because I'd think I would...but there's just enough irregularity in the pattern that I don't mind it.
That being said, I only build them between cities and on mines/lumbermills until I get to the point of having workers with nothing to do."In the beginning was the Word. Then came the ******* word processor." -Dan Simmons, Hyperion

On topic, I hate the tile improvement spam the AI does, as I stated in a thread I posted. The main reason is that it turns the map ugly.
the use of enemy roads (and, I guess, railroads)
Also, on topic, yeah, I put railroads everywhere for
the simple reason that there's always the danger
of a slip of the finger, be it with the numeric keypad
causing my Modern Armor to veer off the railroad
into a desert or jungle, or be it with the mouse as I'm
directing a stack somewhere and it goes off course.
This can be very frustrating and annoying if you
needed said units to prevent pillaging or a city
falling into ennemy hands..."Would you people please try to remember that I am EVIL !?"

I guess it is not needed, but the poor workers must do something. In my current game I have only 7 workers and they often stay lazy. I see the AI has tons of workers. No wonder they put windmills and cottages on every tile, no matter if they are needed or not.

What is the exact ratio of movement points for rails now?
I know roads are 1/3 but rails?
I miss infinite movement- being able to use enemy railways was stupid but your own it was cool to be able to defend anywhere in your country right away.Signatures are for people with free time
