  • No wars? Up the number of players!

    I've noted several people complaining of a lack of wars, even on Noble. I noticed that too, when playing my usual builder style; I could (if not close to anyone too aggressive) get through a game without any warfare.

    I've been pretty good on Noble, winning around 50% of games, and finishing 2nd on the others, but don't feel like moving up difficulty levels yet since it's always a very close game between myself and the top AI up to this point.

    What I have been doing is adding AI players each custom game I play. My latest is a Large/Continents/16 player game (15 AI), and it's been a blast. Absolutely impossible to keep everyone happy; I created a religious bloc of 4 empires but still get dragged into wars or get declared on because I invariably upset someone no matter what I do. Trade with one AI, get three others upset. Refuse to help in a war, get another upset. Give in and declare war, get five others upset because they were friendly.

    Super game. Right now it's 2000AD and I'm trying to get out a cultural victory before time runs out and Haphesut (sp?) wins [she's leading by 200 points due to a late war where she annexed the Arabians next door]... two cities will be Legendary for sure, but the third is going to take some luck and a Great Artist to make it...

    I turned off Space Race, because it was too dominant a victory condition in my other games; it's made this one a lot more fun.

    I agree. I added 18 ai's on a huge map with one victory condition: conquest!

    I have been at war since pretty much the begining of the game ( if you count the early 'Wars of Barbarian Aggression!' )!

    I get maybe 15 to 20 turns out of a hundred that I'm not facing an enemy invasion from one unruly neighbor or another.

    It's probably the most fun I've had with a civ game!

          So if you set them to aggressive, does that limit or decrease the amount of positive relation points you get from trading with them (or anything else), or how does it do it while not making it unrealistic ?

            with aggresive AI on you can get wars declared on you even if you have a +9 standing with the AI.

              I'm practising at monarch and the AI is aggressive enough?
              I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

                18 civs in a standard pangea map at monarch level with permenant allies allowed. everybody keeps attacking and seeking allies. diplomacy is so fluctuating. some one is always furious towards you.

                  I've been adding at least three AIs to every game I play on Standard, and have experienced the same result. The AI fights the AI. The AI fights me. Blocks form and Civs get back-stabbed. Good stuff.

                  Upping the number of Civs from the default is definitely the way to go.

                    Between 2000 and the game's end in 2038 (my first cultural victory, which is doubly amazing since I only decided to go for cultural in 1950 when I realized I had to either do that or go to war with Egypt), I got into a World War where France attacked my religious coalition, and then a couple of other neighbours to our nations got dragged in... there was also a five-party war on the far continent, so we had 11 out of the remaining 14 empires at war (2 had been eliminated by this point).

                    It looks more and more like they coded the AI to go to war when necessary; too much land and you reduce the pressure enough that no one seems to need to go to war. It's true to life; I can't wait to try Large with 17 AI the next game.

                    A good sign when my favourite game was my last one; it was a barrel of fun.
