Isabella can be that mean too.

Try using caravel/sub to sneak in some missionaries ?
same religion at least you have more of common bond

I don't know what makes Tokugawa tick but is it possible he thinks your his worst enemy? That hurts diplomacy a lot. I forgo mentioning trading with worst enemy since it might be you. Just offering some suggestions but don't know how to get out of that hole.

Montezuma and Tokugawa are the 2 that annoy me the most. Basically if they're in my game I can count on being at war with them the entire game or at the very least no better than furious relations while at peace. On the bright side their tech level usually sucks so I don't care if they declare war on me. If they're close by then I conquer them. If not I just ignore them.

I started my last game on a continent between Tokugawa and Bismarck. Can you imagine?
Bismarck got my state religion and became my ally. Tokugawa got a nice beating.

Of course in the meantime the bastard Saladin won the spacerace. I could not possibly catch up scientifically after my war with Tokugawa. I was almost there, but Saladin fooled me. He was always happily dealing with me, and at some point in 1950 he started to build the spaceship! The two faced bastard is good! I made a note to myself to keep an eye on him.

Whom I hate most? Definitely Mansa Musa, for the simple reason that he seem to be there in every single game I play, and I swear I never played with the same civ twice!

Ok, I just had a game where I ended up with the chinese, inca and monty right next to me. The results were as I expected, constant war.

Well my new game i am playing as Saladin and the civs that have popped up are a quiet and dull bunch so far

Only Louis 14th and Washington are fighting each other Louis likes me and washington doesn't but i have a defensive alliance with Catherine cos i fancy her and Persia as they are strong and next door....its now the 16th century and i have not fought a battle yet...

Almost taking it back and wish old Monty was around i was going to include him but he annoyed me so much last game i actually couldn't stand his face when he popped up on the screen.....

the other civs are Togukawa who is bottom of the pile hot but no threat and Hatty.

I've had some trouble with any kind of Mongolian. They're often pretty good and big and don't hesitate to spoil my Space Victory.

Tokugawa, well, he is always attacked first because he can't be reasoned with, so he was never an issue.

Montezuma, I met him once, because I read about his reputation here I killed him right away.

I have also always trouble with the Americans, but that even happened in Civ 3 and 2. Maybe I just treat them wrong.

I'm currently next to Mao, and well, he doesn't do anything, hardly builds and so far I didn't see much military. I think I'll leave him for a while, Cyrus has to go first. Cyrus is my enemy because he build a city in between mine at a iron spot, I couldn't let him have that. Otherwise I wouldn't have done anything to him.

I vote for Isabella. She's quite a ***** with her nonchalant in-your-face yawning. I've been playing on Noble previously and have not run into her even though I was almost always between the Alexander and Monty and always had to crush them after they attacked me.

In my first game at Prince level, I was half a continent away from Isabella but I had to crush Russia to get to my first horse resource (by then it was too late and I spent the whole game without building a single mounted unit) and then crushed China to get the only coal resource on my half of the Pangea.

The moment I finished off China, Isabella declared war against my overstretched empire and my wounded troops. She must have over 60+ units which she threw at me. I could only survive since I had Infantry and was on the verge of creating tanks while her best troops were Conquistadors.

Has anyone noticed that Saladin just harrasses you verbally no matter how weak he is and how strong you are?

I just kind of laugh and reject his demands. He is usually far away and at the bottom of the standings but still feels I owe him something.

Definitely Isabella. She is usually "annoyed" with me the first second we met. I never saw her "pleased", and cautious not for longer than 3 turns (alltogether, i mean. Summed over 5 games).
Usually i am more the peaceful player - but in her case, if she is weaker than me - i make an exception.

montezuma is a bastard. it was soooooo good to get cathy and fdr to kill him off in modern age in my last game.
also, once cathy starts pulling on points, no way to get her. louis also has his late game strides that just get worse and worse.
but surely, monty, izzy and tokugawa are the ones to annihilate. ceasar is also a bloody backstabber, the only way to avoid him is to play him.
all in all, things are great. one easily forgets that those are just leaderheads and coded AI.

Mansa Musa is always the most loved Civ worldwide, never fights a war and it's impossible to have others declaring a war against him. That's why he's 5 tech above you in every game you play.

Ceasar is kind and generous as long as:

                        - you don't switch to a religion he doesnt like
                        - you are not weaker than him

Alexander will always try to smash you no matter what, so try to put him out of his misery as soon as you can
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

I'm having a bit of trouble entirely figuring the AI's out. It seems on Monarch the religious leaders can mostly be trusted as long as you run their religion (this includes crazies like Isabella, but not togy, who should be put out of his misery). Non-religious leaders seem to backstab you sooner or later because it's hard to get enough +++'s with them. Russians, China, Mongols etc just love to backstab without warning.

I am getting pretty good at figuring out what neighbour I need to gobble up, this is important, because if you pick the wrong one you'll get backstabbed. Like latest game I got it right, I had Egypt to the left and Catherine to the right (Note: I'm China and had used the Oracle to get Machinery, but no Iron anywhere! Except in Egyption territory... but I knew fighting Egypt would result in cathy dogpiling me...). I ruthlessly murderized Catherine and Egypt proved loyal (even declared war for friendship alone, unusual when it's an offensive war). What was REALLY interesting, was soon after I declared war on Catherine, she declared war on the english! That b**** is crazy! She must really like severe beatings.
Also oddly, Cathy managed to found Buddhism (I suppose all four of the religious civs went for Hinduism), which was a nice Gimmie. I converted Egypt, the English and the Arabs to Buddhism. I don't think Egypt will backstab me, but I'm interested to see what the English will do. My experience is that the English and Americans are mostly good allys but also kind of aloof, they don't get all chummy and helpful like the religious nuts do.

Imagine my reaction when, from my isolated continent, a message appears saying "Spanish Civilisation has been destroyed by the Aztecs". YES! On b*stard destroyed and the other hopefully unbalanced by early conquest!

Impressive stuff for those who've noted that the AI's don't really cream each other anymore. Jaguar underpowered as some are saying? Hehe. A full conquest in the ancient era is not bad - it'll be very interesting to see whether Monty can leverage that start into a game-winning one.

Isabella declares war on me every game, often multiple times. THe Mongols are a fairly close second.
