  • The Lord's Prayer in Civ 4

My father and I both play the Civilization games, and he called me earlier this evening to tell me about something he thought was pretty interesting. It seems that the opening song for Civilization IV, the "menu music", is actually the Lord's Prayer in Swahili.

The song, "Baba Yetu", is composed by Christopher Tin and is available on his website at ChristopherTin.com in the Samples section.

Oh, and I forgot to mention one thing. We obviously don't know Swahili and we're curious if anyone knows what the title of the song means. We are wondering if it might mean something like, "Abba, Father".

Ha... I just looked it up and Amazon had this piece of info:

Baba Yetu means 'Our Father' in Swahili. This African
rendition of the Lord's Prayer says, 'Father I love you,
      Father I praise you.'

Wow, that swahili is one wacky language, I know the lord's prayer and it doesn't sound anything like it.

Man, first hakuna matata, now this, the world is slowly, very very very slowly being taken over by the swahili, ahhhhhhh.

There's a translation of it somewhere around here or on CFC.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

It has been mentioned here before, but this cool piece can't be mentioned too often.

If you belittle the Lord and Master of all things, it is only because you do not yet know him. But it is written that the world can not know him, because it can not see him.

But should the blind man ridicule the seeing man for telling him about light?

Someone translated the who song. They posted the song in Swahli then translated it to english. I lost the post now and don't know where it is. Maybe someone else can post a link to it.
