  • i feel like im taking CRAZY pills

    BAAAH!! THIS IS INSANE!

    i have machinegunners,

who keep getting plowed over by CAVALRY!

why the heck does the SPEARMAN get +%100 against mounted units, but the real life weapon that single handedly obsoleted cavalry (MG) is like a friggin peashooter against them...

MG's should be +200 on mounted troops. poland found that out the hard way.

I'm sure that can be modded in easily enough.

But yeah, it would be nice if these were in the regular game.

Well.. every Civ game has had this type of horrible situation where you lose something modern to something terribly ancient.. so in this case maybe if you where ON pills you either wouldnt notice or would think its ok!!!

I'm surprised there isn't a mod yet that doubles gunpowder and beyonds strength. On the other hand, I have not checked either.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Why? Initial gunpowder infantry units were *weaker* than their non-gunpowder equivalents. Their utility came from the fact that it was easier and cheaper to train a musketman than a longbowman - but in a fair fight with equal numbers, the longbowmen would've wiped the floor with the musketmen. If you really want to "fix" the gunpowder units, make them cheaper.

I'm more referring to the ones after musketeers. Repeating rifles certainly made them much more powerful, man for man.

So you mean the late-19th on units - like infantry+? Has anyone had an infantry or later unit lose to an ancient unit?

Spearman vs tanks, if the multitude of threads on the topic are to be believed.

Never seen that in the game thus far, though it has occurred in real life.

I can agree about musketmen. But once you start getting into infantry, I think they should wipe the floor with any non gunpowder unit.

never fared that badly against a frigate.

But my current game I lost a couple of battleships against destroyers. . I'm curious why his defensive value was so high. I wonder what promotions he took. Is there a way to tell what promotions the AI has? You can see the little icons, but I don't know what all the pictures look like yet.

Hover your mouse cursor over his pennant - it will give you a breakdown of every unit in the tile, with all of their modifiers listed.

I feel Civ IV has fixed most of this problem. I have (on occasion) lost a tank to something much weaker. However, I can remember a pikeman beating 6 of my tanks and still have 2 health left.

Civ IV seems to be on top of this in regards to being trumped by a WAY weaker unit.
