  • The patch will come the next week

According to Civ Fanatics forum ( http://www.civfanatics.com/ ) Fireaxis told they they are very busy but a patch will come the next week.

I still have to buy the game and this patch will let me think better if the time to buy it has come or not .

Personally I would have preferred to wait 2-3 weeks more to see excellent lists made by you fullfilled of fixes, anyway this is a good start point

i find it depressing that the game needs a patch less than a week after it has hit the stores. couldnt they have waited another week and added the patch before release? greedy corporates

Could be worse. Age of Empire 3 was patched BEFORE the game came out :P

two hundred beta-testers or so just can't find all bugs. They need us, freaking players...
I want the patch. In fact, I feel less depressed now...

The game is quite playable as is. I don't see why people get so worked up about patches. Sure there's a few things that could be fixed/improved but other than a few random crashes and the memory leak that makes the game start slowing down over time I haven't run into anything disruptive. I can play for hours at a time and never run into any problems.

Some games are so buggy at release that they aren't even playable until patched. THAT is cause for complaints. Civ has a few problems that should be fixed and a few features it would be nice to have added but I'd be happy playing it even if they NEVER patched it.

At least they had the patch before it got into people's hot little hands. If there are bugs on the master, then a patch before ship is a sign of a very active and responsive development team. It could also indicate really bad code, but it does mean the devs are active.

I was hoping that an anti crash patch would've been released this week, or atleast a work around.

After more than a week of play, I'm getting the RENDERER bug now. Why?

This is the state of the industry - nothing unique to Firaxis.

Jim, you're not the only one. I've started getting odd graphical glitches the last few days too.

Every time this subject comes up, it is helpful to remember your basic economics courses and the dynamics of market forces.

We may ***** and we may moan about the state of the industry, but we sure as hell still bought the damned game right when it came out, buggy or no. We understand that this is way things go in PC gaming and are usually prepared for it with a sense of fatalism...perhaps every once and a while a company banks on that a bit too much, but they usually get roasted for it.

I can only think of two blantant examples of companies taking NO pains to release a working game. WWII Online was AWFUL out of the box as was Battlecruiser Mellenium.

CIV IV in its current incarnation, is quite playable and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to any patch they throw at us...especially if that patch includes zones of control for forts.

I feel less depressed too, Aro. I bought Civ4 the day it came out, in fact, before the prices were even put out! But I have black terrain. Everything else works.
Any word on what the patch fixes?
                          I don't know what I've been told!

Love to press the Buster Switch!

Once I got round the ATI bugs I found a stable game (so far!!) - only prob i've seen is a graphical glitch where my musketman disappeared and the enemy archer started firing in the wrong direction.

I have to say, I find the state that the game was released in to be shocking.

I have been playing the Civ series of games since the very first incarnation which I had on the Amiga many many years ago As soon as Civ 4 hit the shops I went a brought it the very same day.

                              Got home.

                              Installed.

Well on the 4th attempt it installed. kept crashing at the end of the install process.

                              Fired up the game

                              Hung on the loading screen

                              Reboot

Fired up the game again, Crashed on loading. Stating I dont have direct X 9c (hmm.. ok)

I do a complete reinstall of DX (even though I installed it before the game anyhow, on this fresh install of XP)

                              Game works.

Start a new game, and the screen updates are like seconds per frame, instead of frames per second. Im running a p4 HT 3ghz, 2gb ram, GeFX 5950GT 256mb and the performance is chronic. My system is hardly a slouch bu the game decides its running on like a spectrum 48k and chuggs along accordingly.

The game bombs to desktop every few turns

Sound is often stuttering, ingame movies break up and lag. Map is corrupted with colour lines, clicking on the mini map is an instant crash, clicking one of the advisor buttons, especially the science advisor = 3 minutes before the screen actually comes up.

I thought maybe there is something wrong with my PC/Installation so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game (eventually, took 3 more attempts), with no change what so ever.

I even installed it on my 2nd PC, A p4 2.7 Ghz with GeFX 5900 to check, and had exactly the same issues.

I then installed Half Life 2 and DoW:WA to check my PC wasnt screwed up in some way, HL2 and DoW:WA ran like a dream, no stutters or problems at all.

As a big fan of the Civ series and of Firaxis games (Alpha Centuri) I cant stress how disappointed I am with the out the box game they have shipped.

I appreciate that testing cannot find every bug and that patches are nessesary, but this game should not have been released in its current form as for me and I expect many other people it is almost unplayable.

I am hoping that the patch addresses the issues that are causing so many problems otherwise its going to be £30 wasted and a very disappointed fan of the genre.
