That may well be, but that is a different matter, no?

Besides, there is a choice not to use it ( meh) or you can try and build it yourself. Neither is perfect but at least, it's something.

Neither. Both are useless drags on game play, IMO.

So if someone were to mod the UN wonder to make it possible to resist resolutions passed, I guess this would imply a couple things:

1 - Resistance removes the right to vote.
2 - One could no longer win via the diplomatic route if one were to resist, however, those remaining in the UN still could.

Maybe the UN should be renamed to the EU parlement then...that should take care of all issues.

I guess I'm missing the joke.

I don't have the game yet but from what I am reding here it seems democracy have to be applied therefore you can start a poll where players vote for a patch that tweaks UN as voted in the poll.

Diplomatic victory: It should be like in MOO, where you had the option to not accept the new galactic ruler and automatically be at war with everyone and not able to make peace.

Otherwise, I agree, there should be a way to repeal resolutions.

Q: Can you conquer more land and call a vote an already passed resolution to repeal it?

i reckon the UN sounds good because although it seems that you have no choice you all have to vote. think about it. if people are allied and they all have nukes they aint gonna wanna abolish them. well... they might btu anyway everyone has a vote. it just makes the entire game deeper and makes you think seriously about whether you wanna try and cream everyone, and later on having them gang up on you and voting the oppostie of you... well... thats what i think. 3 days!!!!

Yep, I was just thinking that. I agree with that. Further, if you choose to ignore one of the lesser resolutions, you could be labeled an international pariah state (-x diplo relations with all civs. x would have to be balanced properly... maybe -2 per resolution you decide to ignore?).

Way I see it, there should be resolutions for every civic out there, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to vote on adopting slavery throughout the world.

Ignoring UN resolutions should be also possible, even though with serious political consequencies (-3: You ignored a UN resolution).
I like the ideas of the U.N with lots of more interesting choices. That would make a really fun game. How about being able to go to war with a trouble causing nation.

That's too AI-focused. It would have no effect in multiplayer.

How about all UN members are forbidden from trading with pariah states? If you do trade with a pariah, you yourself become a pariah state.

Of course, that suggests the possibility of an anti-UN of pariah states, perhaps called the Confederated Nations, where slavery is acceptable, even required.

Excellent point. It's a little too artificial how it works right now, what with there being no penalties to balance the bonuses of some resolutions.
