Guess I didn't have the bad porn on my 'puter, as Civ4 is running fine. Have already run a game on normal size world, bumped up another size last night, running nicely, no slowdowns at all.

Posting specs as requested:

P4 2.8
512 MB Kingston cheapo RAM
Soyo Dragon 2 mobo
ATI Radeon 9800 128 MB (MSI branded)

FYI, I'm not shutting down any of my normal background programs to run this. Background is running (along with normal programs):

TrendMicro PC-Cillin
Logitech Mouseware
Picassa2 Media Detector
ALi RAID Manager
ATI Launch Center

Don't know if this helps at all.

Lee – Thanks for the tip. Deleting all ”bad porn” now. Not sure what the difference is between “bad porn” and “good porn”. May need further clarification later.

Why should he switch or why is the industry switching? I don't think anybody should switch from AGP to PCI-E unless they're building a whole new machine. The industry is switching now because there will be a performance bottleneck in the future. Also, PCI-E is not limited to graphics; whereas before, there were multiple buses for different purposes, it is intended that PCI-E support a diverse array of devices, from graphics cards to storage controllers to network cards and so forth (which is why there can be different numbers of "lanes"). That commonality makes things cheaper to design, build, and support, while also providing a higher-performance bus for future use. For example, a Gigabit Ethernet card could saturate a regular PCI bus. However, Gigabit Ethernet is not yet commonplace, so introducing PCI-E now will give the bus standard time to penetrate the market so that Gigabit Ethernet isn't bottlenecked when it does become common.

Thanks for the info, this is actually the first time I've heard of it. I don't get out much these days.
