  • Leaders Firaxis considered but didn't include (from art files)

There are little 16x16 pictures of each leader:

    Arabia: Mohammad

    Egypt: Menes

Greece: Pericles (!) that would have been good!

    Japan: Meiji

    Mali: Sundjata

    Mongol: Ogodei

Persia: Darius (another good choice lsot)

    Rome: Augustus

Sioux(!): Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull

    Spain: Charles V

    Sumeria(!): Sargon and Gilgemesh

    Arabia: Mohammad

That's probably a good idea . Having leaders of religions as leaders in the game is just asking for protests .

Perciles would be an excellent choice... Maybe it is just me, but I'm getting tired of Alexander all the time.

Pericles ? WTF - he was Athens's mayor and not Greece's leader. In fact only Alexander can even considered as such...

Maybe I'm being small minded, but in my studies of Arabia and Mohammad, I can't imagine how he would be a controversial leader.

            And Alexander is Macedonian, too...

Greece indeed has the Macedonian Alexander, and a number of famous Athenian and Spartan leaders, but not really many leaders of Greece per se.

Can you imagine Moses as an Israeli leader? Or Jesus as a leader? People would be pissed their 'prophet' would be a leader of a civilation with leader traits and doing nasty things or whatnot.

Because it would require depicting him as a leaderhead?

Anyway, those are only the ones of which (very rough) concept art was made, I think there were a couple more that were considered but that didn't even make it that far. That the art isn't there doesn't really mean much, other than to illustrate that sinlge every aspect of the game was thoroughly reviewed and revised over and over and over and over again

Maybe Firaxis will use some hidden tricks ni future patches.

Pericles for the Greeks would have been AWESOME. I have been renaming my Greek leaders Pericles since Civ1.

Depicting his image is a grave offence for Muslims and to Muslims.

It would also add complications having him as a leader of a civ that... used pigs for health purposes (what about shellfish? I'm not sure) and perhaps used some of the civics.

All in all, bad idea to even risk offending a whole lot of people.

Well, Mohammad DID lead the Arabs for a time and profoundly changed their course through history.

In development, 'considered' is often one or two people thinking 'this would be cool.'

Firaxis, more than one or two guys, most certainly should be smarter than to consider allowing that to stand.
