I really like the movies, when they actually work properly. Though I agree that SMAC has had by far the best of the series, they also had better material to work with (in that they didn't have to match any real-world structures, not that the real-world wonders are anything to sneeze at...)

I dont agree with you. Civ II has the best wonder movies ever. period.

Of course people have a right to be dissapointed when they were expecting something like the great movies in Civ 2. Even if it's a minor part of the whole it' still a letdown.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

I never said you don't have a right to. You have a right to think the Civ IV windows icon is ugly as well. I just don't understand it, that's all I'm saying.

Too bad every single wonder movie is the exact same storyboard.. Concept drawing->base structure->build process->finished product->landscape finishing touches.

WOOPEEE I'd rather have the detailed palace and city views back.. At least they can be somewhat interesting.

Why did they even bother telling us they were coming back? If it had just been a pleasant suprise there wouldn't be any hype.. But noooo it was made a minor selling point.

Here's to hoping that late-game wonders are at least original in movie production.. I just haven't reached that far yet in my first game
Strangely, I agree with this post.

And as for the one who said that he can't understand someone who is concerned with these things...It is part of the atmosphere. The same way the music is, and the graphics are.

The wonder movies are very cookie cutter and boring, but as stated before if this is the worst thing, then the game is good.

I would love the palace back. It gave you a sense of your growing kingdom.

These things are no less important than music or any other aesthethic aspect included. If all that was necessary was sheer gameplay, then this game wouldn't have needed a new engine, just re-use the old and stand on proven gameplay.

The designers saw the need to update things for a new graphical engine, which shows that they know the value of atmosphere, YET AT THE SAME TIME they cut out the very things that have defined the civ experience.
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

I was underwhelmed by the Stonehenge vid after seeing the Pyramids. Have to see what the others are like.

I will say I personally am happy the palace is gone. It was always just a distraction to me as it didn't have any affect on the game and I didn't much care about building my dream palace.

Don't get me wrong about the videos, I'd love ones like SMAC, but in the end I don't really care.

Sorry to be a stickler but you can't be "ashamed" unless you had a hand in creating these.

As to the point, though, I agree that they should have been a tad more interesting since, as others have pointed out, we had better ones in the past. Those and the palace building may not be for everyone but a game like this needs some of the extra "fluff" or could get tiresome.

And finally, yes, since it was a selling point, they really let us down.

they're pretty boring. The most interesting, I suppose, is the space elevator. least favorite for me is three gorges dam. doesn't look like it should be aforded the wonder status.

I'm glad the palace is gone as well. What was the purpose of it anyways?
