I get an error message in there that says

Thank you so much, I can finally get the game to start now after deleting my cache.

At first I was getting the renderer error, then I tried the PAK fix, and after that I was just being dumped to desktop with no error at all.

Now, after deleting the cache, I am able to load and get to the title screen.

Thanks much. I JUST got the game, installed it, had the render problem, did the PAK thing, then I was dropped to desktop.

I did nothing to update my 2004 drivers, so I thought that might be it, I came here while downloading new ones.

Once I found the CACHE folder, deleting it did the trick. (the best way to find it is by going to the root of C: from My Computer, and making sure files are not hidden). I never did install the new video drivers.

                Thank you very much.

You get way past the init process. Your issue is a completely different from the startup issues with ATI cards. You should try to find a thread that discuss ingame crashes, or start one yourself, if you don't find one with a similar problem.

So I assume that I dont have a startup issue either, even though i am crashing during the loading screen.

I tried to play the tutorial and after about 15 minutes of play it crashed as well.

No My Games folder is created, Civ4 stops loading before that.
