Well in the INF files on the site, you can scroll allll the way down and it'll tell you supported cards (if that'll help). You could always log on on their forums and ask . They seemed fairly nice from what I've read.

You don't have to do anything with NFO. All you have to do is download the patch and then replace the INF file with the one they have online... and then update the driver manually, using the INF file.

I tried something unusual which makes me think to just wait for a patch. Created pangaea world with black terrain and loaded up the WorldBuilder. I put a scout in the center of the map. Close WorldBuilder and did NOT reomve fog of war. Told my scout to auto-explore. As he explored, the fog of war lifted appropriately. And get this....the black terrain was gone!!!!! There was a NORMAL fog of war appearance to all the tiles and not the black graphical problem. The clearing expanded appropriately as my scouts moved out and this worked for normally created units as well.
The weird part is the the cleared fog of war followed my units around. For example, if I had a clearing 10 tiles long horizontally, it would be that no matter what unit was selected. So if a unit moved south, I would be able to see east and west into undiscovered land. And my origin city would disappear in to fog of war. When I click on a unit in my capital, the clearing would be east-west there, but the other unit and cities would disappear into the fog of war. Odd piece of software, hmmmm
.......shhhhhh......I'm lurking.......proud to have been stuck at settler for six years.......

Yeah, that is strange. Well, hopefully fixed when the patch comes down in a few days.

I have Toshiba Satellite 5105 s607; Gforce4 440 Go with 32 MB on-board memery. My drivers used to be v.22.46 (Talking about Toshiba's timely updates!) I had "black terrain" issue and "shiny leaderheads" issue. Fixed both installing v.60.60 drivers from the http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ Note that it may take some time experimenting with driver versions; make system backups as well. The low versions do not fix problems, the higher versions do not work at all! One little issue remained though -- the floodplains are seen through fog od war, but that is not that annoying really.

            AoA--

You might want to try the 77.58 version. I heard other people had success with that one, but they had Dells.

            Cheers!

Mine works very nicely. It may be the 81.87 drivers from Laptop2go.

Yeah, that was kind of wierd.

Btw, I downgraded to the 77.58 drivers, which were made specifically for Dell in mind. After 3 or so hours of play, I'd start getting some graphical glitches and then it wouldn't recognize my new drivers (meaning I had to reinstall them or else see 640*480 with 4 colors ). Since 77.58 seems to be made for Dell laptops, should work better.

                  Imran--

I'm just checking to make sure I understand it right... the graphical glitches that you saw occurred using the 81.87 drivers, right? The first sentence made it seem like the paragraph topic was about the 77.58 drivers, so I want to make sure about the context shift.

If so, then it looks like the 77.58 drivers are the ones to choose for Dell laptop machines. I have a Dell, so I've downloaded this version. But I haven't installed them yet. Have you found any long term effects or instabilities with the 77.58 drivers yet?

From Vorpal's post, it looks like 60.60 might be the version to go for Toshibas, though I can't test it myself.

                  Cheers!

I only played for an hour with the 77.58 last night, but no problems. I'll probably have a longer game today (between football ), so I'll see what happens.

to any of the GF 440 users:

Do you also have the "bread only" city screen? (no hammers and coins visible?) two of my friends have this bug (have a GF 440 go and a GF 420 go) - which was very frustrating (makes the game unplayable) since we noticed this bug after we finally got rid of the black terrain and chesir cat problem (omega drivers and new installation of directx9 and civ4; art0.fpk trick done)

To anybody with a GF 440 go or a 420 go who doesn´t encounter this bug: PLEASE post your system and driver specifications or how you got rid of this problem

I have 440 Go and I confirm the "bread only" bug, alas the drivers did not fix this one...

I have the black terrain, shiny leaderheads, skipping sound and bread only bugs, but NOT Cheshire cat on a GeForce4 460 G0.
I will wait for a patch before updating drivers.

                            Yep.

But it doesn't bother me much at all.

why doesn´t bother it you ?

I can live with false terrain colours and chesire cats, but the bread only city screen makes the game unplayable because of impossible city management (with the new terrain improvements, resources and modificators like civics and certain techs it´s simply impossible to optimise the production/food excess of a city

In civ3 you only had 2 terrain improvements and some food bonuses, but here the number of possible combinations simply explodes - not to forget the specialists who have civic/wonder/tech specific output- this makes MM the City equally if not more important than in previous games (I played some games now on a PC where it´s working properly, and the city manager is as awful as ever, and with the new health/specialist/happiness system you have to think a lot when MM the city, and you have to do it every time a new unit/building is there and with every tech/terrain improvement that shows up

Geforce4 420 Go (with only 32M of RAM!! Grrr)
                                2.4Gz P4
                                768 RAM
I have the same videocard, and managed to let the graphics work by installing updated drivers from my portable manufacturer. The card isn't supported by Nvidia drivers so...

The only thing I have now is the floodplain "green" showing in the unexplored plots and a bit in the fog of war, plus the yield bonusses not showing correctly in the city screen and on the main map. So I have to hover over the tiles in order to see what they produce (text tile info down right of the game map)

Edit: Ah, seems like the "bread only" bug is not only on my portable.
