  • I've got a thing for inland seas

Do they occur alot in random maps? Are the navigable? How bout rivers, can you take boats up em? Not going to be able to get my copy for another week or so.

No boats on rivers, but they do work for trade. The inland seas, if big enough, become "ocean" and are no longer good for fresh water (You can't irrigate from them). But, if the inland seas are small enough, they are excellent sources of fresh water for your empire. The only reason I could see to put a warship on an inland sea would be if your opponent was on the other shore.

Yes that's why I do it. Also should be handy for Med scns.

Well I just read a bit of the bug report thread and am considering holding off buying until a later release.

On the Inland Sea map script you surprisingly always have an inland sea There's also a Lakes map script where you have numerous small 'inland seas'. You may get lakes or seas on other mapscripts as well (esp. on larger maps), but on these two they're guaranteed.

Are they guaranteed to be either fresh/salt water? Or is that ENTIRELY based on the size of the sea?

And can you build navies on them? I think it would be cool to have a really large inland sea with water improvements and navies and such.

Also, does the old build a city on an isthmus -> canal thing still work?

You can and it is. Just select "Inland Sea" for a game based around...d'oh, an inland sea! And you can even have a huge one!

                  It's very Med.

I have an generic HP maybe 2 years old. It's got 64 whatevers of video driver that it came with. I'm not really well versed in this stuff. I figured it would run slow, but now I'm concerned it won't run at all.

Locutus , that's really interesting. In CivIV I could select inland sea from a menu somewhere and out it would pop? If so, that's really super!

I'm wondering, as this game seems rather moddable, if an actual, buildable canal could be modded? Can worker actions actually chance the terrain?

Um... The game makes a difference between fresh water and salt water?

EDIT: It of course dawns on me after posting that one can only irrigate with fresh water...

Lancer - the game has heckuva lot of map scripts and options. Pick Inland Sea and you'll have those. Pick Lakes and you'll end up with a mostly-land map with a number of freshwater lakes. And so on!

The game also doesn't have any major bug problems, it's not any buggier than any random game. There was the huge problem with ATI cards, but it was resolved the day after release, so now, if you have a video card at all capable of running Civ4, you can buy it safely.

Cool! I can't wait 'til I get my copy (I pre-ordered form Amazon to get the cool extras and now won't get mine 'til next week - damn you Amazon) and make a map of the land of 10,000 lakes and play as the "Minnesota Vikings" so I can take my armies out on one of the lakes with a bunch of naked women and alcohol. Or are the Vikings gone as a playable civ?

There are no Vikings (well, only in one of the scenarios).
