No boats on rivers, but they do work for trade. The inland seas, if big enough, become "ocean" and are no longer good for fresh water (You can't irrigate from them). But, if the inland seas are small enough, they are excellent sources of fresh water for your empire. The only reason I could see to put a warship on an inland sea would be if your opponent was on the other shore.

On the Inland Sea map script you surprisingly always have an inland sea There's also a Lakes map script where you have numerous small 'inland seas'. You may get lakes or seas on other mapscripts as well (esp. on larger maps), but on these two they're guaranteed.

Also, does the old build a city on an isthmus -> canal thing still work?

I have an generic HP maybe 2 years old. It's got 64 whatevers of video driver that it came with. I'm not really well versed in this stuff. I figured it would run slow, but now I'm concerned it won't run at all.
Locutus , that's really interesting. In CivIV I could select inland sea from a menu somewhere and out it would pop? If so, that's really super!Long time member @ Apolyton

Um... The game makes a difference between fresh water and salt water?
EDIT: It of course dawns on me after posting that one can only irrigate with fresh water...Last edited by polarnomad; October 29, 2005, 06:25.

Lancer - the game has heckuva lot of map scripts and options. Pick Inland Sea and you'll have those. Pick Lakes and you'll end up with a mostly-land map with a number of freshwater lakes. And so on!
The game also doesn't have any major bug problems, it's not any buggier than any random game. There was the huge problem with ATI cards, but it was resolved the day after release, so now, if you have a video card at all capable of running Civ4, you can buy it safely.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator
