That's disappointing to hear. I've always foremostly played the the historical map in Civ 1 & 2 and Colonization.

i didn't know that an earth map was included, but fear not, for within a short time many skilled modders will have Earth maps to download and play to your hearts delight.
i am sure.
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.
Yeah, but if those can't be anything but scenarios with pre-defined game settings, it'd be a bit pointless.
Besides, it'd be nice not to rely on modding to fix a game. I want to play it, not tweak it.

There's no reason why you can't set historical starting locations with an earth map that's not a scenario. Every decent civ-game had this.
I do not have the game yet, but isn't the Earth map "scenario" simply a historical map with real starting locations, starting in 4000 BC? I would assume that in Civ 4 "scenario" means any map or setting that is predetermined, rather than randomised.

Why can't I customize win conditions (and other rules) with the Earth map?
This is the sticking point, whatever you want to call it.

Isn't there an export or save map menu? Start the scen, save the map, start with predefined map?

The Earth "map" is a world builder save. It look like world builder saves don't have any game settings data in them, so I guess the game settings when running these world builder scenarios are hard coded?
The map scripts are python. Shouldn't be too hard to design a python script to extract the map from a world builder save and start it up as a regular "epic" game where you can choose the settings. If someone hasn't done it already, I'll look into it later today when I have some time.
game settings are stored in the world-builder save. So if you want the Earth map to be space-race only or something, you can do that by modifying it as a text doc. Look at DesertWar.wbs as an example.
