Works, other than a small problem with mouse-over help text not showing up most of the time.

That it is wrong for a man to say he is certain of the objective truth of a proposition unless he can provide evidence which logically justifies that certainty. This is what agnosticism asserts and in my opinion, is all that is essential to agnosticism. ["Agnosticism and Christianity", 1889, Thomas Huxley]

Well, you should consider that a lot more potentional "Works" is out there. Many won't swing by and post about their Civ4 working fine for a day or three. The "Doesn't work" set are going to pretty much come straight here, and see if they can find a tip on how to fix their problem, whine and cosmeserate with their fellow sufferers (let off steam/feel better).
Now, if it's still 1:1 in 4 weeks time... that would be a real disaster. 1 Day in, it's an interesting number, but not actually useful.-Darkstar

Yeah, upon further play, I ran into this too. The video runs smoothly, but the audio starts and stops at regular intervals (maybe a second or so between skips.) It happened on most of the movies I've seen so far, but was ok on the Sistine Chapel for some reason.Originally posted by ajbera
Sound is cuts out during wonder movies, probably will be fixed with a patch, otherwise runs fine.Last edited by Koyaanisqatsi; October 27, 2005, 06:48."In the beginning was the Word. Then came the ******* word processor." -Dan Simmons, Hyperion

Yes. One can view the early number here with scepticism. How many of the apolytoners with a working copy that ignore this thread is up to speculation.Originally posted by Darkstar

Anyway, I have never seen/heard about this many having problems installing a civ-game before, but then I ain't at these forums so often, so I didn't follow Civ 3-installation reports. SMAC had no big installation issues for the general, albeit somewhat unlucky, installer as I recall it. Though always there is one or two tthat can't make it work of course.
So, to call this development troublesome is, in my book, a very careful assessment. And to the people with non-working discs, and there seems to be quite a lot more of them than what could be expected, it is probably a slap in the face.
I hope I won't be one of them. Ahhh... the terrible thought...

Well, it looks like this game is in dire need of patching. It leaks ram like a mother and hogs system resources even more.
The slowdown is starting to make it borderline unplayable. It takes me about 4 times the time it should to do anything in game.

Disk 1 is play disk. other than that works fine, halfway through my first game, no problems of any kind.
Powerspec Computer with Intel Motherboard, 1.8 MHz p4, .75 gig ram.
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, latest drivers as of about three weeks ago.
All background programs shutdown except ZoneAlarm and video and sound control panels.
Note that program will hang with ZoneAlarm during initial start. Press Control Alt Delete to bring up Task Manager, which also makes the ZoneAlarm dialogue display. Tell ZA to let Civ4 do its thing, and all works fine if that was your problem.

My civ worked right out of the box. However I also pulled the new computer out of the box at the same time. Bought this box just for civ, and it works fine with integrated ATI:
