I have the same problem, just as that screenshot shows. Intel Extreme Graphics 2 here.

Also the civ leaders have their faces transparent, only the eyes and ears and eyebrows etc are visable.

I have the same excat issue. I'm very upset about this.

        I have a 2.6 P4 512

        Mine is a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X. 128 MB

        Also additional questions:

        Why are the leaders shiny?????

Like the leader of Arabia is ridiculously shiny. Like bright wax. None of the leaders looked lighted this way in the preview videos.

Also, during the initial video my sounds keeps skipping. This pauses the video everytime it skips. I updated all my drivers. said they were the most up to date.

My sound device is a Realtel AC97 Audio. My speaker settings are on Desktop Stereo Speakers.

        HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

I had disabled all my firewalls and everything when I installed, including norton. (Question: I disabled norton, it won't get off my task bar just has an X is that the same thing?) I had my internet unplugged during installation also, would this do anything????

Same problem: can't see stuff, but can when zoomed out.

I don't expect much foofaraw, what with my compy barely making the minimum requirements, but it sure would be nice to see the map.

            Gawd.

            This night is becoming hell.

I was goin through my computer trying to see if I had any spyware and I was editing the registry and accidently deleted something.

Computer just crashed. I fortunately was able to get it back up with all my system info still intact.

I can't think of anything to do about this issue with the black map.

It's a big problem, why is this not being addressed? I know Soren is looking at another issue, but a lot of us seem to have this one too.

I think this is the problem.

Why is that a problem, geforce is supposed to be fine for this game? I read the read me notes and there is nothing about errors with that card.

Doesn't matter now, my comp is mucked up and I am struggling to repair it, I can't download updates from microsoft for some reason. Gawd, I just wanted to play civ. Christ.

Well after doing a bit of research mine is definitely the T & L problem. Unfortunately I didn't check requirements on this one as I figured Civ wouldn't be very taxing as I have no problem running Age of Empires 3.

I keep hearing different stories on what cards are and aren't T&L capable. Does anyone have a solid source saying that the Geforce4 MX doesn't have it? So far I have seen three sites that say it does, but many people seem to be having trouble with that card, and a few people say it isn't T&L capable (though I haven't seen an actual source supporting that yet.)

Well, I don't think my problem is the T&L. Hell, my card (the Radeon 7500) is the example they use. Yet, here I am.

I'm having the exact same problem! Does this mean my video card doesn't support Transform & Lighting?

It may or may not. I'm having the problem with only they eyes and mouth showing up as well... and my system, I believe, does support T&L.

If you aren't sure of what your system has, you might want to go to http://www.srtest.com/ for a system requirements check. I did that and it told me my machine has T&L abilities.

                              I got mine working yesterday.

                              I have a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 with AGP8X.

I uninstalled the windows update for my nvidia card and went directly to Nvidia website.

I believe 81.85 is the driver for Geforce 4 with XP operating system.

But anyway, mine is working fine now. High settings, mine is also a 64 mb I found out yesterday, I thought it was 128. But I have the graphics bumped up, it did crash after a while though, I think the graphics card got some stuff stuck or in the cache or something and it got bogged down.

                              One thing though.

You can see flood plains anywhere in the zoomed in map. When zoomed in so as to see units, you see the green that represents flood plains. I think it might have to do with the way those colors contrast, a bright green and a light yellow. But you can see it even through the fog. It's not bad, doesn't really take away from the game just annoying.

I had the same problem Black map no bodies for the leaderheads..... I have a Radeon 7500. I downloaded the omega driveres and it still happened.

Good news though I fixed it by turning of the AGP setting in the SmartGart tab.

Now it all works at all setting for high perfomance low quality but the game crawls!!!!!!

The support line will just leave you on hold for 20 minutes then answer to tell you to call back in 24 hours.
