  • Espionage?

I haven't seen much mentioned about espionage...I'm wondering what sorts of options we'll have in this regard, as compared to Civ3.
If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...

My understanding is that we're moving back towards the Civ2-style, where there is an actual spy unit that you move around and do missions with.

However, I'd have to ask the folks who have already played the game to be sure.

The spy in Civ2 was hawt!
First Master, Banan-Abbot of the Nana-stary, and Arch-Nan of the Order of the Sacred Banana.
Marathon, the reason my friends and I have been playing the same hotseat game since 2006...

I'd love to see how a Civ 2ish type of espinonage unit would work now in a Civ 4 MP game.

        Plant Nukes?
        Steal Tech?
Assassinate Leader? (Causing 2 turns of anarchy)

Have we seen how it looks this time around? Can't remember to be honest.

I missed the Civ 2 spy. However, irc, everyone could spot them on the map. That sucked: they should be invisible to other nations, unless they invest in some tech, or have some sort of counter-spy.

I do believe the Spy this time around is Black jumpsuit with red hair. Think Alias season 1: "Red Hair is better"

So, come on Mark, can you spill the beans? What are the abilities of spy units? Are they invisble, can they destroy city improvements, (we know they can destroy tile improvements), can they stir things up in the city (cause unhappiness/sickness), can they kill great people? This is the kind of stuff I am DYING to hear about !

Anything would be better than the Civ3 approach to espionage at least...

Yep. And BTW, SMAC's AI was quite capable in using spies ('probe teams').
