  • Civics Screen: What combination = X Government

I'm not very good with government stuff, but I'd like to know what combination would = (or be closest to) Communism or Democracy, etc.

    Can anyone work it out?

Ya know... I spent 2 and a half hours of my Political Science course today just dreaming about playing Civ 4.

I'd be happy to work it out, but too lazy to find screenshots.

Well, I think the obvious ones would be:

              Hereditary Rule+Serfdom+Vassalage+Organised Religion+(almost any economic civic)=Feudalism.

Police State+State Property+Free or Orgnaised Religion (No State Religion)=Communism.

              Representation+Freedom of Speech+Free Trade+Free Religion=Republic.

What do you reckon-am I on the right track?

                Hmm...

                by my judgement

                American Democracy would be:
Universal Sufferage(since the Civil Rights movement), Free Speech, Emancipation(since the Civil War), Free Market, Free Religion.

Communism would probably be Police State, Bureaucracy, Emancipation, State Property, Paganism

Democracy could vary alot tho, depending on the country and era.

What is Representation supposed to be? What is Universal Suffrage supposed to be? These terms are often misnomers. Along with Democracy.

I expect Universal Suffrage would ideally mean a vote for everyone.

I interpret Representation as an older system, like the Roman Senate, or the British Parliament of the 17th century.

Yes, but then you have to go about defining everyone. Because there isn't really universal suffrage in the world. But it's supposed to be a reflection of something in the real world.

Likewise, if you talk to a politcal scientist, the United States is a Federal Republic, not a democracy. What with it having a congress and a senate and an electoral college.

                          True enough.

But Universal Suffrage does not define a governmental system, it only defines the electorate.

Oh, and I had a brain fart before. For Represenation, I was thinking more along the lines of the electorate only being formed by the elite and landowners and the like.

Womens Suffrage began in New Zealand, when the women faught for their right to vote. They won.

So, modern republic should be Universal Suffrage, not Representation.

I would construct a Roman Republic as:

Representation+?+Slavery (maybe Caste)+Mercantilism+Organized Religion (maybe Theocracy)
