      Have the betas actually played the gold version, to see for sure if the windowed mode has made it into the final cut? A lot of times things are kept in for testing purposes only, such as various debug modes, only to be sliced out for delivery to the public.

        Same here. Also, OE would lose all of it's icons on the menu bar; they would all sort of slide slowly to the right, disapearing for good until you quit it and restarted. Very annoying indeed.

            Well Firaxis can't think of everything. If they didn't include that, there's nothing stopping you from using Winamp or similar

              adding ram to notebooks isnt cheap at all
              i also have 1680x1050 on my notebook and it already worked fine with civ3! the ini file needed keepresolution=1 or similar in it.

                yeah, civ3 worked great in 1680x1050 - but due to the new 3d-engine civ4 most likely wont perform as well as civ3.

                  I would have thought the opposite. As the workload is now spread between the graphics card and the CPU.

                    the dell widescreen notebooks don't have per default super powerful graphics cards, but it should suffice. no one will worry about framerates in civ4 except maybe when zooming

                          The file to edit is:

                          "My Documents\My Games\civ4\CivilizationIV.ini"

                          Set:
                          FullScreen = 0

                          There's also a shortcut to this file in the root of the game directory.
