I wonder if a holy city operates as an endless source of religion, irrespective of its citizens. For example, if you sent missionaries to a holy city of a recently founded religion, can you convert everybody in the city back or will it always be shown as having, among others, the religion of which it is a holy city.

Also, if you have a holy city of a religion that is not your state religion in the middle of the country, is the spread of that religion effectively stopped (since it can't spread to your other cities) or does it bypass your surrounding cities and goes to foreign cities?
The problem with leadership is inevitably: Who will play God?

When you convert a city to a certain religion, all you do is add that religion onto the city's list of religions. A city can never lose a religion. So a Holy City could never be converted away from a religion.

I want to know what factors go into determining whether or not a missionary is successful.

You sure? Then some of the finer ideas of the old List is lost...

I'm pretty sure that's what Solver said. I agree that it would be nice to see religions rising and falling, rather than just rising at different rates.

Oh, didn't you know? Religions are like Pandora's Box... once out...

Well, whatever other effects it has, razing a religions Holy City should make you 'persona non-grata' amongst every civ that has that state religion, and any cities of yours with that religion should ger REALLY PISSED and become almost completely non-productive-i.e. there needs to be a SUBSTANTIAL in-game cost to a player for razing a holy city!

There is no possibility of me razing a Holy City unless there is no possibility of them accepting my peace terms. And by this point, I have declared their deity a warmongering fool along with all of their allies. Since, I play a defensive game with advance technologies. I usually find my enormous naval and air attacks to be never-ending and challenging and a tremendous burden on my economy and research.

Aussie: If somebody during the crusades razed Mekka, do you think the Christian civs would be pissed? No, I think that penalty should only be for same religion people, or, if the religion concept was more deep(oh, how I wish...), only for people of same religion and people of religions that is friendly to the said religion.
