I voted for Sid Meier and John Carmack. For games:

Civilization - no comment.
Doom - one of the most revolutional games ever, an excellent, genre defining FPS.
Half-Life - excellent game, defined modern FPS games, still unparallelled storytelling in the genre
StarCraft - along with Age of Empires, these are, IMO, the two pillars of the RTS genre.
