  • What civs/leaders do you think you'll like most?

First of all, we can just guess on this subject, but that will be fun, I think.

    ------------------------

Name a few civs you think you'll like playing after trying out some civs, alternately the civs you'll definately will try first, and also, if you wish, add what strategy you think will be fun with the chosen ones. Or, if you wish, you can name the traits you find most fun on paper. This is all just an excercise for me to see what different approaches people like to use in play.

You may also mention favored opponents if you like, and why.

    -------------------------

    For me personally,

    I think I will like/try playing...

Peter the Great, Philosophical and Expansive.
I am curious about great people and how you can use and abuse them in the game.
Also I'm obsessed with building granaries and building big cities, though I know that traditionally has been not as good as just expand, expand, expand and make war, war, war...

    Saladin, Spiritual and Philosophical
Here one would go hard for religion and hope for a great prophet somewhat early to build up the religious fervor. I also like building temples a lot...
I'm beginning to sound like a poor player and a building ******. Perhaps that's true at times though.

    Mansa Musa, financial and spiritual

Well he has a fun and cool name and likes puppies. He can also build those temples fast. He will play aggressive in the start with the early unique unit and then settle down a bit. And he is financial so one can easily upgrade troops when getting new techs.

Then there are all the civs that hold enormous historical interest for me, and I will play them for those causes.

Favored opponents will be some of the aggressive and/or expansive ones, like Genghis Khan and the Japanese. And perhaps Gandhi to make friends with.

I'd like to play a leader good for builder strategy. I'm not sure who'd be best for that, I know we have a thread speculating, but nothing's set so far AFAIK. Saladin sounds good though. I'd like to build a Christian, world dominating, Saladin lead Empire spreading the Christian faith to the masses!

If the situation gives me the chance.

Gandhi sounded like an excellent builder's choice, so I would like it - Mansa Musa is also quite builderish, IMO.

        Good one, Saladin spreading christianity.
I missed the thread for speculating though. I quickly scanned through the threads on the first page for it, and I think the second, but I can't be sure. Perhaps we have more info now though...

Yes, Gandhi with the fast worker is probably ideal in many ways.

Ok, that thread had a bit broader perspective than I thought. But this thread is more about stating personal preference.

I know. I just said that we had a thread speculating, and then came with my personal preference judging from that.

i must say that i'm intrigued by the "creative" trait. those free border expansions would have come in damn handy in civ3 in outlying cities. if in civ4 still quite many cities are necessary and distance still causese some kind of productivity issues, it could make land grabbing and cultural influence pretty potent

depending on how often i'll be changing the civics, spiritual may be interesting. but surely industrious is still a powerful trait, although i guess they have toned it down a bit.

I think I'm mainly going to play as Great Britain (due to my ancestory), Napoleon (due to my ideals) and Fredrick (due to my tastes)

I'm sure you can mod in Israel Solver.

Oh, and make sure to play on a historical map, with the Arabs nearby, that should make an interesting(and hopefully ahistorical) situation.

Maybe we should have a modified ME map where all the ME oil is in Israel .

Anything is better than the current situation I guess.
