It is a part of an earth map that not all strating locations are equal, because that is simply how it was on earth. You can always balance it by manualy choicing your opponents so they are spread around and not all in europe.

An earth maps off course needs fixed starting locations, I was shocked when I dicovered that my japanese civilization started in Africa in civ3. Having historical starting locations is what makes it fun, what let you feel that you are replaying history

            I wouldn't care if I'd get banned.
I would actually think it would be amusing, in a sense. Also one can always come back to tell the story. I don't think I will though as I think MarkG thinks it a bit amusing to throw some cheap shots in the first place. I mean, he would deprive himself of some target practice fun. .
MarkG is actually a funny guy, though sometimes I think he just tries too hard to be MarkG, that's all. And perhaps a bit too much of a pro-company businessman, but I guess that's neccessary when having a site like this, so it is hard to blame him for that, though at times the diplomatic answers to everything pro-company can get tedious.
At least some conflict makes for better entertainment.

I do know that the style to not to care at all whether I piss off the wrong people actually makes some people here upset and make them go after me (see above), but that's ok too. I'm just trying to make a point on what I want, to affect the outcome of Civ 4 if I can, even in the tinyest way. And sometimes, believe it or not, I may be wrong about my suggestions,(not this time tho), but that's always a risk when you throw things out on the plate and see who is hungry.

If people are respectful and make thoughtful replies to things I write, and wish to have a conversation, I answer in kind. If they are just throwing things from their mouth without thinking or to provoke(as MG did above), its is usually because they know they can't motivate their answers on the things said in the long run.

About the map: If most people don't want any tinkering with the earth map, I will rest my case. It's not a problem. I would think the earth map would be a bit worse because of it, but it's not a problem. I actually think I will be reasonably happy when the map arrives with the game, and I think they may have slipped in some tiny tiny good up thing for what I care about.
Observe as I have repeated before, I don't mean a lot of tinkering with the map. In fact, very little, though I elaborated on it a lot.

              Hm,
I´ll only play the earth map if it is big enough
and for example England doesn´t only have place for 1-2 cities
(as it is usually the case with Civ worldmaps)

A balanced Earth map would be critical, IMO, for any good MP games. Against the AI, of course, it's all well and good to be screwed from the beginning and to make the best of it.

So lay off Freddz or I will unleash THE RABBIT!

I agree and disagree. Some little tinkering is good I think, but it shouldn't be obvious (the oposite in fact) when looking at the map that there has been tinkering, unless you're pulling your atlas and resource books from the shelf and use the microscope, bacause then you might see it.

But I am glad you agree with me on the horror of starting somewhere else than the fixed location on the earth map. It was pretty terrible. The thought that they won't include it even in the modding possibilities is just too frightening to even consider.

Slightly tweaked earth map.ust enough tweaking to make sure no one CIV is super strong or weak.

Fredz, why so mad? Insulting others, owners or not, can't do anything good for you or your case. I suggest you just try to explain your view more detailed if there is misunderstandings.

Yes, I agree, playing England when 3 cities hardly fit on the island is not fun at all. I also tried it. I'm not sure this will be corrected though, even on a large map.

exactly my point. Well said. Though I respect yin's point of view as well about MP and SP.

I'm not mad at all. You thought that? And I did explain. And I have explained it to clarify further.
I'm just throwing the ball back, and trying to get it back between asskissers isn't easy.... so watch out.. and I am also trying to make conversation with the people who wants conversation, people like you.
Then again, a little conflict sells, so it isn't all bad on sites like these. If you don't believe me, just ask your local drama teacher. Or Sid Meier, the maker of Civ.

                              MarkG,
