The Civ4 Strategy forum here will undoubtedly, over time, be a better source of strategy. However, I do have trust in this paperback guide, and it should certainly be good enough for starters. After all, before all the really advanced strategies are discovered, we'll have to learn the basics.

Argh, one beauty of Civ is that, after some time, people start coming up with all those advanced strategies. On the other hand, many of them rely on some obscure game feauture or something else that makes the AI incompetitive vs. these strategies.

if it isnt a real civ player that knows how to play aka expert, its going to be no good.

been along time since paper back strategy guides were worth buying. nowadays some guide writer comes in,plays the game for a few weeks even as changes are made, and a guide is released with the game so they they can rake in cash from it. i have several prima guides and the advice they give is more of a joke book than anything

Maybe they finally listened, got the message and changed the system.

Well, I hear that the strategy guide is going to be written by a real Civ player, and a skilled Civ player at that.

            Sir Ralph

It all boils down to Mrs Drakan allowing me enough time to play it. Newlyweds are just so time-demanding !

Work on wife faction, Drakan. You still have 4 weeks left.

Back to the topic, I know at most a handful of real civ players, from which I would consider to buy a printed strategy guide. One of them is Aeson.

Just remember, not every expert hangs out at Apolyton all the time.

I have no doubt that any Civ expert reads these forums a good bit, though, and will probably be reading for reactions and feedback for future editions.

Sorry Alva, I edited to be a tad less obvious.

The number I mentioned includes not only Apolytoners, but players from all sites I post at (a few) or lurk (a few more). For a start, Sir Pleb of CFC is among them too.

You should drop by Civ3 Players (or, now, Civ4 Players) sometime.

We'll see. However, a big part of the fun I expect to have from Civ4 is to figure out my favorite strategies by myself.

As it appears, he can even beat other players more or less regularly.

I should hope that nobody can beat Deity regularly. Otherwise, they didn't turn it up high enough.
