Yes. It would make them mandatory. In fact, that's probably exactly what it does. Otherwise, it and at least one of the designated mandatory prerequisites would be merely optional.

Okay, but in the case of Compass (I think) you have the need of Fishing (manditory) and Iron Working (Optional). Now why isn't Ironworking just a manditory in the upper right hand, Instead its listed as optional (as in with an arrow).
I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record but I don't understand why they have some with only maditory (flight) and others with only one optional (horseback riding), or one manditory and one optional(Compass). Why isn't uniform? Why don't they do it like Flight and just list these prereqs in the upper right if they are indeed all truely manditory.
Verenti, regarding Compass your logic holds true. OTOH, Iron Working is placed just before Compass so it obviously leads up to Compass. Would you have both as required pre-requisites even though Iron Working is just before it? People would then argue that there should be an arrow.
With Flight, it would be awkward (and somewhat messy!) to have an arrow from Combustion (only 1 column behind) and still have it lead to Rocketry. Yes, it could have been done, but it is cleaner this way. Also, in the videos it shows that as you mouse over techs, there are pop-ups which I presume give further visual cues.

Fission leading to Ecology?
yeah, why not?
for one (leftist side), nuclear fission led to many protests and made the world more aware of ecology.
also (right-wing side), nuclear fission is the cleanest power source besides water power (which is geographically limited) [i'm not counting, wind, geothermal and tidal (sp?) power because a) they are pretty new and b) only a fraction of the whole power consumption.
so yes, fission leads to ecology

electrical power also needs to be generated. in countries with high fossile energy consumption (china, russia, also USA), electric cars are not much better in the big view (although still preferable as toxins get produced in a controlled environment)

Yep, but a quicker awareness of the need for so-called 'alternative' sources of electricity could have resulted, and quicker looking for ways to reduce the output necessary to drive equipment.
