while scanning the shelf looking for the only real game to buy

I noticed the bottom right corner

That's the date everyone (game sites with any evidence whatsoever) seems to expect. Firaxis themselves have said November a number of times, so it's probably not too far off

november 16th is the date that's most close to all dates in november, so it's the best guess you can have if it's november

I think it wasn't released much later overhere in The Netherlands, but I may be wrong though.

The english Version was AFAIK available in german stores short after the US-Release (at the same time as the UK-Release).
But it took months(AFAIR even half a year) till a german translated version came out (which resulted in the well known story of Coldfever who wrote a german translation for the english version [using the textfiles that came with the program] and made it downloadable on his webpage, but was stopped by Infogrames shortly thereafter )

Vanilla was released withing days but both PTW and C3C come out much later, in the case of C3C, it was much much much later.

American shops (including webshops) don't allow shipping to Europe of products that haven't officially been released here (don't know if that's retailer policy or enforced by the publisher or even law (probably one of the latter two)). The only solution would be to let a buddy in the US buy the game and have him mail it. But that can take up to two weeks with regular mail (and that's assuming customs don't give you trouble), at which time the game's probably out in Europe as well.

It was about 2-3 weeks later than in the US, for most of Europe.
