  • Still excited about the release of Civ IV

I asked this question before a few months ago and just wundering if people are still excited, after reading an interview on Gamespot.

I am not impressed with it so far. I will probably buy the game but not as soon as it comes out and wait till the prices drop.

I am not impressed with the graphics so far. The mountians look like they were in Civ III, just rolling hills. The trees look like tiny dung balls, not a forest at all.

What is this Rise of Nations? You get 3 men in a unit?

As much as I try I can't get excited about Civ IV, espically the fiasco on what happened with Civ III and MOO III.

I hope I am wrong about Civ IV so am wundeirng why people are still excited about the relese of Civ IV and see if I can be changed

I'm excited (honestly) about the added modding abilities and the MP from the ground up. If the gaming community uses these tools in the ways they almost certainly will, then Civ 4 could well prove a great game. Off the shelf, though, I expect a game that panders to the masses. Fair enough, but more will come later, I'm sure.

      Yes, I am excited.
The graphics look good and fresh.
The updates to old game mechanics look good.
The new game mechanics look good.

I don't see any reason to believe that this game may suck. Of course there will be issues. There always will be.

Yep, I'm still excited. More than ever. I want my civ IV now. My daily dose.
I read this kind of thread, knowing exactly what I'll find, just as a poor substitute of the real thing...

And you ask me if I’m still excited.

Yes, I'm still excited,. Insanely excited...

Whats wrong with that? That was my favorite graphical part of RoN. I was excited when it was getting modded to have 9 men in a unit.

i'm excited about Civ. I'm hoping the interaction between player and AI is dynamic and always enticing, at every point of a game. I have pretty high hopes for it.

Oh, but I'm also looking forward to AoE III. Thats one good looking game, if you ask me. And its almost my favorite military period (i kinda prefer 1800s. Atleast theres a bit of that in the game).

If you're going to complain about Civ4 then bring legitimate points instead of whinging about superficial features. If you don't like the trees then go make some better ones.

(Now, a good concern about Civ4 would be "The programmers have been listening to the wrong masses about spearmen/tank and ICS. I think they might have gone too far and created a new imbalance.)

I have a feeling people who don't like civ3 won't like civ4. They have these prejudices in their head that Civ2 is the greatest game ever made, and cannot be topped.

As for the graphics, I never cared for Civ3's graphics very much (I use snoopy's graphics). But I don't play the game specifically for how the mountains looks.

Nonsense. SMAC is the best civ game ever made.

I'm still excited. In the months after the E3, I was getting used to the game, and I was less hyped. However, Barry Caudill's recent interview was very interesting for my perspective, and it made me sure to buy the game when it comes out.

I'm not overhyped like before, but I'm now a sure customer. The game will be solid, and I will play it. It's really that simple

Don't be silly. Civ1 was the ultimate Civ ever made. Civ2 was just Civ1 with more.

I'm interested in Civ4. But I'm not planning on rushing out to buy it. Now, X3, that I will be eagerly awaiting. Galactic Civilization 2, that I've already bought, and will get all through its betas until release, and then all the updates!

Civ4? I don't think it will be the disaster that MoO3 was. If they kept to the core of Civ, I'll find it to be an okay game. If they have advanced the game play significantly in a way that is fun to me, then it may find a permanent home on my hard-drive. Just as ToT and SMACX each have.

Cant help being excited about another civilization game.
From Civ2 to CtP2 I have enjoyed many hours of game time along with fan mods. I think many in here will snap the game up as soon as its released. Even if the game has a low rating from many of the game sites.

Why don't I just make the game then. Why should I have to make something that I already see that I don't like. If I see something bad, it can only get worse, espically if it's something superficial.

                              Yep, I'm still excited...

Although I will experience a short time of 'acclimatization' in which I kinda feel the old game was better. But after playing a few games and really getting to know it I will start to realize that the new version is way better then the old one

At least this happened to me when Civ3 was released
