  • OK Nikolai, thanks. That is a sensitive subject for me after some early attacks at ACS.

    Clarification.

Anyone who has an AOM game, regardless of how or which one, can get a full update to AOM II by downloading the 12 mb file from my AOM website. You will of course, need to start new games. This update has every change since the release of AOM (5.5.05).

The ACS main download will be updated withn 36 hours to be AOM II.

The ACS download should also have the 12 MB update file to convert any version of AOM to AOM II, so people who have it already simply get that.

    • Stankarp,

I ordered the disc last week. Once it arrives is there anything, other than the AOM II update, that I need to download? Is AOM II a completey different game, or just an enhancement to the disc I ordered?

      • The transfer is complete and apologies if you were unable to access the AOM web page for over a day.

Apolyton Civilization Site now hosts AOM. Thanks to Dan and ACS.

          • I'm really looking forward to using this mod, though I am a new CTP2 player and am still playing without the mod to get used to the system.

              • Sorry Finfarin, I missed your post of 1.12.

AOM II retains all the stuff of AOM but has the new invasion code, religion and some ai combat tweaks. Some etra diplomacy stuff as well. I perfected a code where one ai only may ask for things during its turn and the effects are executed at the beginning of the human turn. The code is used now for an ai to ask for public works aid or suggest an arms reduction treaty.

E, the AOM website retains the same URL but the dns has been changed to point to Apolyton.

                • Within 24 hours I will be posting revised files for the later starting times for AOM II.

In addition, I have completed a new later starting time for AOM II, starting at 500 AD. This is after the Dark Ages so there is no major barbarian spawn around 300 AD, no Hun Invasion and no Dark Ages instability. Later, the mongols are much reduced and the duration of the Black Death is nearly halved.

All players start with more resources and most advances up to the Dark Ages. It is more like selecting a later staring age when playing Multi Player in the original game.

I suspect it will play like a completely different game, more cut throat. Frenzy level will rise initially because of certain events/advances the human already has.

                    • The 500 AD start will be released untested as I do not have time to run a full test.

I am just checking the timeline and making sure it loads without errors.

                      Will welcome any feedback.

After I post tomorrow, I begin AOM III in earnest.

I am also tidying up a shorter version of the main campaign. It will be 20% shorter than the normal full campaign (turns wise). Basically all research and production costs have been reduced by 20% and historical events brought forward to match the new time line.

                      • I d/l'ed the big (550+Mb) AOM2 file and was surprised to find that the intallation instructions are for installing over a current AOM install.

I would have thought that since a far smaller update download exists to upgrade AOM to AOM2 that the instructions with the full d/l would have been for installing AOM2 over a fresh CtP2 installation.

Since these instructions do not exist and I do not have AOM on my computer, I was unable to make use of the AOM2 download.

It looks interesting, but since I cannot install it, not that interesting.

                        • Do you have
                          - CTP2
                          - Modswapper
                          - Patch 1.2?

They are the only requirements for both AOM and AOMII. I do not think AOMII had the Patch and Modswapper in it (Stan????)

See my sig below for my website. Follow the link to the 'Cradle' page. The Patch and Modswapper are both there for download.

I believe that AOM2 is a complete Mod though in that it includes all of the files from AOM, so you will not actually need the AOM download.

                          From the AOM readme...
                          Install CTP2
                          1) Do a fresh install of Civilization, Call to power 2, install the full files when given the option.
                          2) Copy the ctp2 patch 1.11.exe into your CTP2 folder inside the Activision folder and double click on the Icon to install.
                          3) Copy Modswapper.zip into the same folder, extract all files and run the setup.exe.
                          4) Create a shortcut to Modswapper and place it on your desktop.

                          Install AOM
                          1) Go to folders CTP program/ ctp userprofile.txt, find the line debugslic and set it to from Yes to No.
                          2) The AOM disc has a series of folders which match the same folders in CTP2. Select the contents of each folder on the AOM disc and copy and paste into exactly the same folder in the CTP2 folder. Overwrite when prompted.
So the contents of the ctp2data/default/gamedata/aidata folder on the AOM disc will be pasted into exactly the same folder in the CTP2 game folder on your hard drive.
                          3) This will include pictures, sprites, tile files, videos, text and slic files.
                          4) To start AOM, double click on the Modswapper shortcut and select the game you want to play.
                          5) Note, once you install AOM, you will be unable to play the original game. If you think you want to have the option, copy and rename the whole Activision folder and create a shortcut to the ctp2.exe file directly from your desktop.

For AOM2, all you should need to do is take the folders in the AOM2 download and overlay them into the exact folders in CTP2 - overwriting files when prompted.

just a comment, I hope that this line

                            5) Note, once you install AOM, you will be unable to play the original game. If you think you want to have the option, copy and rename the whole Activision folder and create a shortcut to the ctp2.exe file directly from your desktop.

is moved up higher on the list. A few months ago I rushed to put AoM and followed the steps and once I got to the last one... D'oh.

                            • To clarify, the AOM II download is the complete ctp2 game, with patch and modswapper and all AOM /AOMII additions included..

I only recommend installing ctp2 to make sure that at least an old copy of direct x is on the computer. (in case its an old pc and the person has never played any games).

Otherwise to install AOM II from either the download or the disc, simply copy and paste the contents out of the zip folder onto your computer, create a shortcut to modswapper.exe that is inside the main folder, put the shortcut somewhere handy like your desktop and launch AOM II from there.

That is why the download is so big, it is a complete game. So many people had trouble copying and pasting all the bits I changed tack and included a whole game with Dan Q's concurrance.

                              • Also there is a separate download for AOMII changes only for installing over AOM (12 MB).
